DH and I are seriously considering adoption, but I want to go to an angency and talk to a counslor, ask questions and get a better idea of the process. Where do I start?! There is so much information online its a bit overwhelming. How do I go about finding a reputable agency? Any advice on how to start the process would be greatly appreciated!
First, what type of adoption are you interested in? There is private domestic adoption which means adopting from your home country (USA, Canada, whatever it may be), there is adoption through foster care, foster to adopt through foster system, or international adoption.
Then, I'd find a support group (usually just a google search away) for that type of adoption in your area. Those parents would be able to help with specific agency recommendations. Or you can always just open the phone book and go interview every agency that appeals to you.
We're happy to help with generic questions here too! And I'd love for you to KUP on your journey!!!
Beth got you started on the right foot. I actually went out and bought a book called, "Idiots Guide to Adoption"... it helped us a TON! It answered a LOT of my questions and helped guide us to making the right decision for us.
Yet another wonderful siggy by HeatherW.... thank you so much!!!
