I know there was someone else who did kinship through foster care but I can't remember who, well besides me
My kiddo's adoptions aren't finalized yet but will be in March. What can I help you with?

I'm mostly curious about navigating the system. I'm calling tomorrow to inquire about my niece.

Honestly I never had to deal with any of that. I knew my sisters case workers since she had two children that were already removed from her care who lived with my parents. So when the third child was removed from her care the social worker called me and asked if I was willing to take her in. And then I just had to go and pick her up from social services. I know now days in this state that even with relative placement the relatives have to get their foster care license but back then (4 years ago) they didn't.
mamma_anna was the other one who did a kinship adoption through foster care. She might have more insight than I do.

Yep. That was me. We never had any custody issues though. Her birthmother asked us to take her. We did have to get our foster care lisence but because it was sort of an emergency situation we were able to take her home while we were still in the process. Let me know if I can answer any specific questions for you.
