I know very little about domestic adoption, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I have a friend who is recently "approved and waiting" for a domestic adoption. They got a call last week from a bm who is due Aug 30 and should find out in the next week or so if she chooses them. My question is, when would be an appropriate time to give them a shower? This will be their first child, so they will obviously be needing to purchase quite a bit, but I wasn't sure if it would be better to wait until after the baby comes to have a big shower. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

The way I plan on doing this is to have a shower prbably 2 weekends after placement day. I will have the necessities on hand (onsies, diapers, bottles in advance, and then have the shower for the "fun stuff".

I know FOR ME, I dont want to have the shower until I have the baby, since, even though the birth mother has chosen us to raise her baby, she still has the right to change her mind after delivery. I would be crushed if I had all the stuff in the house, and no baby. But thats just my opinion. If someone else wants the shower before placement, I think thats great too!

Thanks for the reply! I think we will wait, just in case. I'm just going to send them a gift card in the meantime so they can get some of the necessities.

Marla,

I think that is a WONDERFUL idea. I see it this way. Diapers are not "baby" specific. I mean that in the horrible even that the placement falls through, diapers can be saved and used on another child. But I feel as though if I had outfits for a child, and the placement fell through, it might be harder to "save" them to use them for a subsequent child.

Maybe thats just me....
