Yay for getting started! Don't be nervous, it won't be as bad as you probably imagine. They're not going to walk around giving your house the white glove treatment or anything. Just be yourself and you'll be fine!

Be sure and let us know how it goes and good luck!!

Thanks for the advice. I feel like they are though I'm already thinking about all the places I will have to scrub with a toothbrush. Trust me when I say my house is not dirty (i'm a little anal about that) but I feel like it will never be clean enough. I just get nervous becuase its one thing for me to not get pg its a whole different thing for someone to tell me I can't.

Hey this is Sheila from Western Mommies.
Glad to see things are moving along. I feel like you've motivated me to get things going up here in Dallas. I've been so nervous to just make the call. I had planned to last wk but let myself get preoccupied with other things. I thinks its all the "unknown" stuff that makes me so nervous.
Guess it's time to take the plunge too!!

Best of luck to you sweetie

Hi Sheila and welcome!! I happen to know a great social worker in Dallas if you'd like me to get you in touch with her. She did our home study and post placement visits for our 2nd adoption and we just love her. Believe me, the unknowns of the process are more daunting than the process itself. Once you get that paperwork in front of you and know what you have to do, I think it gets easier. I wish you the best!!

Awwww, big hugs to you! You're going to do just fine, hun, it will be clean enough. You'll feel so much better once that first visit is over. Remember, social/case workers aren't there to try and find some reason you can't adopt, their job is to help you make it happen. Hang in there!

I had the same fears many years ago.

All they want to see is the general home enviornment. They want to be sure there aren't drug dealers next door, that the floor has been cleaned sometime in the past six months, that the baby will have a place to sleep (At that time, we were planning to dormer the upstairs. One wall had a panel missing; we had removed it to see what was behind it. That was fine.)

We had a labrador retriever; no problem (in fact, the social worker had 2 dogs.)

I also got the impression that they wanted to see the two of us interact on our home turf. The questions she asked were all ones they knew the answers to. But I think she was watching us more than the house.

Relax. This is not the big deal we all imagine it to be!
