My DF and I are about to TTC our first. In a few years, we'd love to adopt, domestic. (Because of our age) I was wondering how long the process can take, for a domestic? What are the age limits, etc? Or does anyone have any good websites with more info?
Also, we want to probably adopt from China later as well, does anyone know what the current age limit is? My parents adopted from China twice, but they're almost hitting the maximum age, at a combined age of 102 !! Sooo.. They have no idea what the requirements are for now. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I'm pretty sure they have an upper limit (combined and separate), but I don't know what it is. Actually, as far as I've seen anyway, pretty much all countries have an upper limit like that. They have an individual lower limit as well. You have to both be at least 30, married for x-number of years, not divorced (or less than x-number of divorces), etc.
Keep checking into it the closer you get, because the rules could always change in the future.
I am going through South Carolina Department Of Social Services to adopt a newborn (when one comes along) and the social worker told me that it doesn't matter how young or old you are to adopt here. They also told me that it doesn't matter whether you are married or not. All they seem to care about is that you can provide a good home for the child in which you adopt. Each state is probably different though.
