lblackst's post got me to thinking, what do you all call the day you met your adopted kiddos, or for those who have done domestic adoption, the day the adoption was final? In Chinese adoption, it's often called "Gotcha Day" which I think is cute for babies, but it somehow doesn't seem appropriate for my older daughter, who was 5 1/2 when we met her. We started using "Forever Family Day" after we adopted her and the girls seem to like it.

Just wondering what term everyone else uses!

Some people have expressed that "gotcha day" sounds one sided and kind of sounds unflattering...I am not big on it myself. I understand the emotions behind it but I can see how it could make a child sound like a new car. We dont celebrate the days in big ways or call it anything. But we do celebrate one "family day" a year to celebrate how we became a family.

I never really thought of it that way! This board is the only place I've ever heard of names like "gotcha day," so I assumed it was kinda standard. The friend I have who adopted a 5 year old from Russia just calls it "adoption day."

I love the Forever Family term, for me when we adopt that's what it will become the day that we became a forever family.

Well, I didn't adopt but I was adopted about 27 years ago and my mom and dad and I always have celebrated it as my "Happy Gotcha Day" and then we celebrate my real birthday as well.

You know, we don't really call it anything. It will always be a very special day to us, especially since it is not only the day we finalized her adoption, it is also my nephew and my brother's birthday.
