In your experience/research, how would you rank adoptions from the least to most expensive? I *think* adopting infants from foreign countries might be the most expensive, followed by domestic infants, foreign older children, domestic older children, and then members of your own family? WDYT? Is it cheaper to go through adoption agencies or through social services or what (no matter the age of the infant/child)? I'm just trying to get a broad overview of cost from greatest to smallest, and I'm sure those lurking would like to know as well. I know a friend recently adopted a 5 year old from Russia, and when it was all said and done, they spent in the neighborhood of $40k. Most people can't afford that.

Our adoptions cost about $25-28K each, and there was no difference in the cost of adopting Jaden at 10 mos and Jacey at age 5. I don't know about other countries, but in China, the adoption fees are the same regardless of the child's age (except in the case of some waiting children, who have grants offered for their adoptions). You have to remember that travel plays a big role in the cost of international adoption, especially for countries that require more than one trip (like Russia).

Our adoptions were older and special needs kids from DSS custody. The first one costs were $1,500. The 2nd one, the state paid for us.

The adoptions for all three of our children were paid for by the state. We continue to get a monthly subsidy to help care for them as well. We call it our "child support!" lol.

We adopted our kiddos from the foster care system.
