Hi, I'm a lurker here...I would love/hope to adopt a child/baby one day, possibly a Chinese baby/lil girl after we had a few kids of our own...(as I always dreamed/wanted to be pregnant and create a life with my DH, but I would love to give a home to a child who may never have a home and who isn't wanted)

With the way things are going with DH and I's fertility, on cycle #12 with no success so far, if no Christmas miracle this Christmas, we will be going to see a fertility doctor in hopes of answers. If we happen to find out that we can't have children at all, then we would want to start an adoption process as we know it can take forever. My question is, would we be able to start the process much less adopt at our age (we're open to both international and domestic, just anyway/possibility to have/be a family) I'm 21 and DH is 22. (everywhere I read said age 25, i read on some adoption agencies that they will accept 21 but that it just takes longer.)

Any advice or tips or recommendations would be great on what you think our first steps should be, if we end up being unable to have our own children, we'd love/prefer to adopt an infant. But if we are capable of having our own children we still may consider/plan on adopting later on when we're closer to 30 when we could adopt from China, from what I read) Thanks!

I don't really know. I adopted from the US and they weren't infants. I do know that most countries have age limits.

Hi and welcome to the group! I'm Marla, mom of 4, including 2 cuties from China. You're right that the minimum age for China is 30. I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that the minimum ages in the US are much younger. You might start by just contacting a few agencies about age restrictions, or check out the adoption laws for your state.

I wish you the very best on your journey to parenthood!

You are correct; in the US, it is either 21 or they don't have age requirements.
