My husband and I just wetn through our third miscarriage, and we decided that we watned to adopt. Even before all this happend we new we wanted to adpot a baby, this just opened our eyes to go ahead with the process now instead of later. (side note..my husband and his sister were adpoted, and we just wantd to give a good life to anotehr baby like someone gave to him)
My question is, I dont even now were to begin, or what agencies are good. Or if there are any out there that are bad. We have decided to stay in the states with tis adoption.
How long does it normally take to adopt?
thank you all for your help

A few members of the board have started domestic adoption and they would be a better person to ask, however, we are in the process of international adoption and looked into domestic when we were making our choice. The first decision is whether you want to go through the foster care system or try for a private adoption. If you decide on a private adoption, there are a ton of agencies in each state. We interviewed a ton of agencies and asked for referrals from parents. We also searched blogs and contacted people randomly to ask their opinion of the agency. Once you decide on an agency, you start the homestudy and education. The initial paperwork can take anywhere from 3-6 months. After that, the wait for referral depends. In the US, in most cases, the birth mother chooses the parents so the wait can be nothing or forever.
Good luck.

You can google Adoption Agencies for your state. If you definitely want a newborn baby, you'll most likely have to go through private adoption. Most state DHRs and such will only adopt older children (not newborn). A place to start is just to google it and then call some agencies. Ask what they do, how their adoption process works, what types of children they adopt, how much it costs on average. They might be able to just send you brochures or literature that you can read through.

DH and I decided to adopt older children through DHR, so I'm not positive about many private adoption policies and such.

depending on what you want, how fast you fill out paperwork and other factors 6months - 2 years after completing paperwork
