I saw that some mommies on this board adopted domestically through foster care. I am hoping to do this in the next few years. I was just wondering if anyone would mind giving me more infomation about this- like where they got started and how the process went for them.

Thanks!

Hey! I've just started the process, so I don't have a lot of answers. I just called my local DHR and they sent me a packet that I read through and filled out the application. We have classes to go through, home studies to have, etc. etc. I'm sure there are others here who can give you more information. Just wanted to say hi and give you some support!

Department of Human Resources. That's the state department that takes care of the foster system. If you are in the US, your state will have one. Just google them.

Hi! We are kind of new at this too. We got our license in Nov and got our first placement 3 days later. We are adopting her hopefully by this summer.

To get started contact a foster care agency. Here we have to go through DHHS but some places have agencies. Its a lot of paperwork, background checks, references, do several hours of training and of course home studies. It took us several months for all of this to get done.

The biggest thing is to have patience because the state can be so slow at times.

Good Luck!

other names are DSS (Dept. of Social Services). Just look under adoption in your local phone book.

We just finished up our classes, but are still working on our paperwork. (There is tons!) The holidays slowed down the process a bit for us. Anyway, good luck and welcome!
