As the year progresses and we start thinking about the holidays, I was wondering if anyone has started Christmas shopping? If you haven't when do you normally start?

I have done a little shopping here and there. Mostly as I go shopping now, I am just getting ideas for people and what to buy them. I usually start in earnest after Thanksgiving (when the sales start). My dh is in school and only working part time, so we have an extremely tight budget. Waiting for the sales is how I try to stretch my budget.

We are on a tight budget as well being a one income family... I have bought 2 cars for him so far. BUT I do have a walmart giftcard that has almost 100$ on it. Every payday I am adding a little more to it so I will use it for Nathan's X-mas shopping when the time comes!

That's a great idea. I never thought about doing that. A lot of times, I'll start to put aside money for xmas shopping and the next thing I know its gone. Putting it on a gift card would save me from spending cash, as long as I don't take it out shopping with me. lol.

How do you put it aside and not spend it? I find that if money is laying around, it will get spent on things we need (car repairs, groceries, etc) and then I don't have any for xmas.
