I was 36w gestation with Avery when we had our 2nd ultrasound appointment to make sure everything was okay and measure him. Routine for my doctor. Well, the u/s showed that my amniotic fluid level was "dangerously low" and Dr. Ting said I had to be induced immediately. Mind you, my appt. was at 8 a.m. and I hadn't had breakfast yet and of course, they won't let you eat before you go have a baby. I had to pack my bag and report to L&D at once. I got there and they started pitocin and I started having cx immediately. I was in hard labor from 10 a.m. that day until midnight and only dilated to 1/2 cm. At midnight, I was pissed about everything, hungry, and in pain. I demanded they let me get up and eat and get some rest b/c this was obviously not going anywhere and if they didn't give me a break I wouldn't have the strength to push when the time came. Ting agreed and let me get some food. We started the pitocin again at 6 a.m. the next morning and the cx immediately started again. I was in labor all day long until about 6 p.m. when I finally got stadol (sp?) for the pain after much fits. After my 2nd dose (b/c the first one didn't help), my blood pressure went WAY up and Avery's heartrate went way down and Ting said if it happened again they would do an emergency c/s. Well, by then I was tired and feeling pretty crappy and I asked him if he thought I would ever make it to pushing (I was only dilated to almost 2 at the time also) and he said no. So we decided then to do a c/s b/c of failure to progress. At 7:13 that night, Avery was born weighing in at 4 lbs. 14 oz. and 18 inches long. He went immediately to NICU b/c of an "air pocket" in his lungs, and was on oxygen for 24 hours before I was allowed to hold him. Then he developed jaundice and had to stay a little while longer, but in all only 5 days in NICU. He's perfectly healthy now though!

Here's his 6 week picture...

Wow! He was such a tiny guy at first. I bet that was all very stressing. I'm surprised they let you go that long before they did a c/s. Great story though!
