If your children are old enough, how are you teaching them about saving and frugal living?

I've been hatching a plan for my 7 year old to do the shopping. She is very math and science minded. I thought I'd give her a certain amount of money, a circular, and 3-4 days to plan meals--including snacks and what she takes for lunch and snacks at school. Then, after she does her shopping, and she has planned well for the allotted time, she can put half in her savings account. I can totally see that motivating her. Of course--it's still a plan, I haven't managed to implement it, yet.

I don't involve them with money matters much at all. They DO have a point system, where they earn points (like an allowance) and each time DH gets paid they get to spend their points, so they kinda know what stuff costs.

My 5 year old Alayna knows all about savings and clipping coupons. She goes shopping with me all the time and I always tell her how much I'm saving and she knows we only buy something if it's the best price.

My 3.5yo DD gets an allowance and she's starting to learn that she can make it buy more if she buys things on sale, waits for what she wants, etc. She's a bargain hunter, we were grocery shopping the other day and she said "Mommy, I think we should get this juice, and look, it's even on sale!"
