So, last night my sister sent me a link to a blog that was talking about one of the women who was profiled on Extreme Couponing. It seems(although it's not proven) that she is using coupons in the wrong way. She will buy one item and something with the coding will know it will pass through no problem. So she is using a higher value coupon for a box of cereal for a cheaper box of cereal to get a better deal. Now, this is all alleged and I am not saying SHE IS DOING IT. I am just posting what I read :-) It's this type of behavior that ruins it for everyone, sadly. Did anyone else happen to see the blog?

I have never watched that tv show, and not sure that I want to when I heard the one woman got chips for 800 people! LOL They turn it into hoarding, not couponing.

Oh, she's definitely doing it. It's all on tape because she's stupid. She is doing what is called decoding: using a coupon for a different item made by the same manufacturer. Such as using the $10 Crest Whitestrips Q's on cheaper P&G items. It's illegal.

How stupid, I agree about turning it into hoarding, and doing illegal things on camera is beyond ignorant. I have watched the show, but feel like the people there give couponing a bad reputation

I agree. It is illegal, and so wrong.

I know some are mad that TLC hasn't stepped up and released a statement yet. I am sure they are in talks with lawyers etc.

Wow, did they not look into this before they had her on the show? I don't have cable and don't have fast Internet, so I can't see episodes or whatever, but holy cow.

Interesting. I didn't know about this. That's kind of sneaky, aside from being illegal. I think there are always people that do things like this.

I haven't watched this show yet. I did meet someone at the grocery store though the last time I went shopping that was using coupons for the very first time. She saved $40 in coupons during her trip and so we were talking. She said she got inspired from watching the show. I told her a few tips while we talked. So, I think the show is mostly a positive thing and might get more people interested in couponing and saving money.

Patty-- I agree that the show could inspire people to change the way they shop and save money like they haven't done before. However, there's nothing shown on how to actually get started doing it. Or on legitimate use vs. illegal use.

I've been reading lots of comments on various blogs/couponing websites/FB lately and many newbies are simply asking the question "How do I do it?"

I agree, Teri, I think in order to be truly helpful there has to be some information given on how to start. They make it so out of reach if that makes sense.

Sad that people like that give others a bad rep for people who really want to save money!

stokpiling is one thing.. hoarding is another. they do make it so unobtainable too.

I watched a show from the other night. One of the women was stockpiling for her future family...thousands of diapers, pediasure, etc.

What!?!?
