What is your budgeting method?
Do you keep a spreadsheet, use the envelope system, keep track in your head?

I use a variation of the spreadsheet method. It's the one that has worked the best for me. I tend to need to be very organized and rework my budget a lot to see if I can move anything around to allow more wiggle room.

I pay most of our bills online, but track everything on paper. Anything that we pay cash for (groceries, gas, "fun money", etc) and saving for bigger things (car repair fund and gifts for example) we use the envelope system for.

When we first started tracking everything on paper, it really opened our eyes to the "little" things that were adding up.

I also use a variety of spreadsheet and online bank payment log. We have also noticed the "extra's" that add up! Putting it on paper really does let you see that.

We currently use The Budget Map. This is our 5th month using it and it has been such a great system for us. DH has one and I have one.

I used to keep a spreadsheet on the computer but found I had trouble remembering how much was left in each category when we were out shopping. I tried using cash but it was too much to deal with, esp since I normally am holding a baby in the checkout lane!
