Some months back this new hair place opened up. They advertised 5$ hair cuts for men, women and kids. Then listed prices for perms 20$ and up. Cheap prices on other services such as hair coloring. Someone said to me that it can't be good quality. Well took our teen son there for a hair cut. They did it nice. But noticed they have a sign posted. No checks or credit cards accepted. I'm thinking that is why the prices are so low. They are not paying out all those fee's for processing credit card and check payments. So they can afford to charge much less for their services. Then I asked what brand of perm solution they use. It was a brand I like that works great on my hair. So I may go back to get my hair permed sometime soon. Last time I got my hair done I spent over 100$. And it didn't last the amount of time they said it would. As for the hair cuts. It was like the barber shop. They took no appointments. It was first come first served.

IMO, bigger [prices] is (gramatically, it's "are" ) not always better.

Bigger only means better if we're talking dollar bills and paychecks...

I have purchased many things generic that I liked just as well as or better than the national brand, so it's saved me a lot of money.

As far as hair cuts... I used to go to a private salon for my wild haircut--and I had the best [wild] haircuts around for only 17 bucks, when everyone else was charging 30... so even haircuts can be just as good or better despite being cheaper.

I say go, save money; love it!!

(PS... I think you're onto something with the credit card thing--my DH and I go to a fantabulous restaurant and eat for so cheap. A fillet mignon with soup, salad, and bread, veggie and peirogies is only 14.95. They don't take credit cards or checks, either).

I went from getting $45 haircuts to getting $18 haircuts at a new place and they did just fine. One thing that helps is I have a simple cut - long and layered. It was definately worth the change.

BTW I also went from $100 highlighting to $7 highlighting - I learned to do it myself and buy it at the drugstore. What a savings!
