On Monday, I'm starting the Master Cleanse. I know some of you have heard of it and even done it. To those who have done it-- how bad is it? I'm prepared to drink the nasty concoction, smell really bad, and spend all my time in the bathroom. But I haven't heard any first-hand accounts. Is it true that you don't get hungry? Did you feel cleansed afterwards? Did you do the salt water cleanse in the morning or just drink the tea? Any suggestions or tips?

I'm off to buy my expensive ingredients today. I'm actually pretty excited to start it. I'm hoping it helps with my lethargy, headaches, and general feeling of malaise. Wish me luck!

Good luck! I've never heard of it, but it doesn't sound at all fun!

Dh has done it several times. The first few days are really hard. The feeling of wanting to really chew something doesn't ever go away. The salt water enemas are a very important part of the fast. Don't skip those. Once you see ropes and nastiness coming out of you, it will keep you going.

GL cleansing your system! You CAN do this!

Oh, and I'd ask your dh to not eat around you. Have him go into another room.

Thanks for the tips, Jess! I had never even heard of it until you mentioned your DH was doing it and spending up all of your money on lemons. I think lemons are going for 50 cents each here. Ouch! Oh well, it saves me from buying regular food especially since DH is going back on his strict diet. He just doesn't know it yet.

You can use limes too. Do you like limes? I bought mostly limes because they're quite a bit cheaper than the lemons. I wonder if the maple syrup overpowers the citrus taste. I'll let you know the verdict on Monday.

I failed the first time I tried the cleanse. I have no idea what your diet and environment is typically like, but I think it is important to be as "clean" as possible before undertaking any major detox. After my failed cleanse, I spent two years (yes, years!) getting our diet as pure as possible and eliminating polluting sources in our home (especially health/beauty products and household cleaners). When I did the Cleanse last fall I never felt hungry but I did feel almost flu-like symptoms from the detox for the first few days.

I should also mention that if there are any addictions to sugar or caffeine, those should be addressed before you do the detox, also.

I always thought I had a caffeine addiction since I would get headaches if I didn't have it for a few days. But when I found out I was pregnant, I quit caffeinated soda cold turkey and didn't get the headaches. I actually didn't miss it at all so I don't think that will be a problem during the cleanse. But I'm bad and I'm sure I'll go back to it after I'm done. I know I'm going back to milk even though they say you shouldn't. I know it produces excess mucus but I can't give up my milk for longer than 10 days.

I figure I just have to go through with the cleanse no matter how bad it may be. I spent a bundle on the drink ingredients and I'm too cheap not to use them up.

Thanks for your input!

You should just wait a few weeks until my giant lemons are ready for picking, silly.

GL with that... I've never done it... but I know people who swear by it.
