My sister is really into couponing now, thanks to me! She called me today when she left Kroger and told me, "I got made fun of at Kroger today, and they were really being mean!" First of all, she went through the lane of this woman who has worked there FOREVER but is a total idiot and you can barely understand what she says. My sister told me that she examined everything really closely and even went back through her bags to look for stuff (even though I'm 100% sure that Kroger's computers match to the brand since I've bought 99c items before and my 50c coupons only double 49c so that there is no overage). Then she had a coupon that was like 79c off three cans of some kind of dogfood. It had nothing to do with anything free, it was just SAVE 79c WYB 3. The woman tried to take off less than the 79c, and when my sister questioned her, she went back to the dogfood aisle to check the price (why she didn't just look at the tape is beyond me!). There was also some mustard that scanned wrong, so she went back to check on it, too, and a couple other things happen.
Well, when she got in that lane, it was the only one open and no one was behind her for a while. After things start getting complicated, she said that these four (or five, she couldn't remember how many) couples from MI get in line behind her. She said that one couple had a cart full of meat, one had a cart full of produce, one just had paper products, etc, like they had divided up the store. When the cashier is digging through one of her bags, one of the people in the back of their group said, "What is taking so long?" and the woman right behind her said in a really snotty voice, "She's using coupons!" like coupons are just awful or something. They made a couple other really rude remarks are were making fun of her over it right there where she could hear them! I told her I would have said something. When she was pulling out of her parking spot, she saw them all getting ready to load up their big SUV (that's how she knew where they were from) and she said she thought about taking them all out! I think what she should have done was told them, "I just saved $XX...I think I'll save that to use on my next vacation." I just hate stupid and rude people.

I probably would have said something too. I am afraid that I may eventually hear something likethat when I get more into couponing but at this point I don't care. Why spend that much money on something if I can get it for cheaper, right?

I am sorry your sister had to deal with that.

Rude comments are no fun! I had someone at work interrupt my story of savings (I was telling another co-worker who is interested in started to save more) by saying "Wow are you that hard up?" I just wanted to punch her in the face. Why spend more money when you dont have to!

Booo to coupon nay sayers!

I'm sorry she had to deal with people like that. Maybe they were just jealous. I'll bet they spent WAY more than she did!

My older ladies in line behind me the other day (when it was taking forever), were really sweet. They were talking about how good I was doing, and that they could just picture my savings back home (I'm from MI, so I know they're from that area--the accent, you know ). They were sweet. Then I had a target incident where I accidentally gave her the whitehouse brand instead of motts (I'm stupid ) so I had to search. I was like, 'can you just take those off, and I'll go right there and find the coupon and then come back through line so I don't hold this lady up at all...' and the lady was like, 'it's totally ok. take your time. I'm in no hurry...' I like people like that. The people like your sister ran into are just idiots.

Tell her not to get discouraged. It's awesome to make people jealous like that.

As a MI girl myself, I apologize. That's just plain rude and I would've cheered if she HAD taken them all out with her car. "OOPSIE! My coupon binder fell on the floor and wedged the gas pedal down. There was nothing I could do. Darn coupons!"

Grrr, people like that make me mad. The people behind me are usually nice. I've gotten a few eye rollers when the cashier is clueless about the free coupons so it takes them an extra minute but beyond that it's been fine.

I hate rudeness! If people want to overpay for stuff that is their problem. They can just keep their mouth shut about my business!

I'm sorry your sister was confronted by a bunch of rude people. In the words of Kim, "I hope they all have square bowel movements".

The thing is, when coupons take a long time, it is usually because the cashier is an idiot, not the couponer.

Lady: "She's using coupons!"

You: "She's running her mouth off like an idiot ... oh ... my bad. I thought it was say the most obvious possible thing day."

I have no problem with people talking smack. They pay a whole bunch of money and I don't. Screw them. It's not my fault they're ignorant.

I love that response! I'm going to put that on the front of my coupon binder!
