Were a family of three, Well four every summer and some holidays, When my DSD is here with us..

DH, ME, DSD 6yrs, And 11mo DD .. Oh and one on the way...

Do you thinks it's practical for me to cut out food budget down to 100 or even 150?? Currently we don't have a food budget, because i'm focused on getting our bills and debt on a budget, But i don't know hoe much we currently spend on food... Also we are thinking on investing on a deep freezer, and i pack DH's lunch for work... I figured that if i buy things on sale and really try to use coupons, i could make it work... Whats your opinions?? Anyone else only spend that much on groceries? Any tips??

Thanks!

I have a family of five (myself, my husband, a 10 yo, 8 yo, and a 19 month old). We do well on about 125 a month. Or less. Last month I went overboard and got us so stocked up that I am barely spending this month. Probably barely spending next month too.

It's practical to set the plan, but it will take work. I work hours a week just planning out my shopping trips, getting coupons ready, price comparing, going to several stores (buying ONLY loss leaders at each store), etc. It does work. It is possible. You have to be willing to really work it, though.

That's my eventual goal. I think it is possible.

We only save about 50$ a month with WIC.

The Freezer should be on its way soon .... They have to call DH and let him know when they will deliver.... and there's tons of 10 for 10 things at meijer..... Do you find that you save more with coupons on name brand or on buying store brand... Or does it just depend on the item??

brand name vs store brnad...

Well with the Walgreens and CVS deals you can pretty much get all your bathroom essentials as brand names for free or nearly free!

When it comes to food, it totally depends on your stores and their sales. Basically it's good to know what you buy and what is the best price you can get for it(based on sales). Then you know to buy it when it goes for that price. Some girls on here keep a price book to help them, but others pretty much have the prices memorized.

For me, about 50 bucks; I get milk, cheese, juice, cereal, and eggs. I also get Maddie's WIC, and hers is probably about 25. She just gets cheese and juice cereal and eggs; no milk. I could totally live without mine, though (I prefer soy milk, which I buy anyway!) So hers is what it really saves--about the 25 bucks. Really less, though, because I always use coupons for WIC too!

I have found that, for the most part, I can get brand name with coupons for much cheaper than generic.

Except the occasional target brand stuff that they have coupons for. I can get BOGO stuff with coupons for MEGA cheap, but some things don't go BOGO, and those things I can usually get generic cheaper. Especially when I find target brand stuff with coupies. Their generic caprisuns are awesome. I got lots of boxes of them for only 94c with the coupon!!

And, if you're getting a freezer, and you say you have a Meijer ... check out the Meijer store brand coupons this month on FROZEN FOODS. You can stack them, nearly all of them, actually, with manufacture coupons, and make out like a bandit. Watch the 10 for $10, especially if it's Meijer brand stuff, as a lot of the time, the $1 you're paying is super close to the regular price, so it isn't as good a deal. Other brands on 10 for $10 are even better, especially plus coupons.
