I am so bad at finding good individual insurance. That's partly why I don't have insurance. There's that one commercial about health plans with that weird guy who can't "pick that up on his way home". You know the one? I don't remember the name of it though. Which means I watch too much TV but don't pay close attention to it.
I do know that Blue Cross/Blue Shield isn't that bad-- at least for the juvenile insurance. I don't know about the adult plans. We have all three kids on the Blue Options plan and we pay $241 per month. How much are you wanting to spend? And how much is the family plan through your work? Do you think it would be at all worth it to get the whole family on that instead?
I think $40 for him is a great amount! I would totally go with one of those. Yours is so cheap! DH's individual plan is $80 a month. He could add on an infinite number of children and pay only $300 a month. But if I were added, it would be approx. $640 a month! Isn't it crazy?
$40 sounds like a good deal.
My dh pays $52 per week for family. Claire qualifies for medicaid until she is 1. She is on dh's insurace too and whatever his insurance doesn't pay medicaid will (copays, etc).

$40 sounds like a good enough deal to me, doll. You can link me the info and I'll read over it if you like, as it really depends on what kind of coverage he's getting as to whether or not $40 is worth it. Check out the Blue Cross Blue Sheild programs for young adults. I don't remember the age range, but I think he may still qualify. It's only major medical, but if I recall it's pretty cheap as well. Any more specific questions, just ask. Mom works for the Blues.

Awesome. It is a full service plan, doc visits and what not, he doesnt need much, just to be able to go to the doc and them actually take care of him instead of hearing he is uninsured and then they stop caring. Here is the site I was looking at
I wish I could be more help. I pay $87 every 2 weeks for full family coverage for the 4 of us. We have an HMO which I know a lot of people hate. It works for us though. Good luck with the search.

It won't let me see your quotes ... which plan were you looking at specifically? I can probably figure it out from there.

We have our insurance through me, and pay about $170 a month for full coverage that includes eye/dental. I think it will double when we add kids (unlimited #) but it's still not bad.
DH's was CRAZY something like $700 a month for family.
The one you're looking at for him is probably a good basic plan to a)get him in the door at places that aren't so kind to the uninsured and b)cover him if anything big happens.

Ok ... I looked through their stuff. The only kicker is the $5K deductible. They waive it for office visits, which he's allowed TWO of per year, but then there's a $30 copay. You'd just have to be ready to cough up the first $5K if he got hurt, as they wouldn't pay for anything until you'd met it. It's the same thing as car insurance ... the lower premiums come with higher deductibles, but you have to have the higher amount ready in case you crash your car or the insurance doesn't do you any good.
Is there a sliding scale free clinic near you? Does he go to the doctor a lot? Does he have a chronic condition for which he needs regular treatment? Is this going to be worth $480 a year plus a potential $5K deductible? It may be, I just don't know his health specifics that well.
The Aetna PPO 2500 is also a solid option, and they don't limit office visits.

He would need meds every month. He has never been hospitalized, and to be honest, 5k is better than the 10k they would charge if he didnt have insurance at all.
Here's another question. I know that I have been able to get some medical bills lowered due to financial assistance. Do they do that for the deductible or no?
How exactly does a deducible work? I was looking at these and I'm getting some decent quotes, but don't understand exactly how it works.
