I will try to keep it short and sweet since talking about it makes it more real to me.

I work for a contact company (oncall) and the work I do is for one of our contracts (onset). Well last monday Onset cut my position. I was told at that point that oncall was going to keep me working as long as they could until the find another project for me to work on. So since Tuesday I have been doing "busy" work. Recruiting for outside positions and what not.

But I got the final word today that Friday the 28th is my last day. I will start collecting unemployment after the first of the year until oncall can find something else for me to do.

So yeah, my savings will dwindle and my stress level is through the roof.

That's whats going on

that is all

I'm sorry. Liz. But I know how resourceful and resilient you are. You'll make it through just fine. And I believe you'll come out to something even better at the end of this. (((hugs))))

you are silly mandi

Thanks for your support Ladies, I go back and forth from perfectly okay to the edge of a breakdown. When I got the final word today, it kind of sunk in that it is actually happening. So today has not been the best day

But it's still a day, and you can go home, hug your DH, snuggle your babies and be ok. Just breathe. In. Out. Repeat. Eventually, everything works itself out so long as you can remember ... in. out. repeat.

Man that sucks!!! I really hate companies who feel the right time for this BS is in December! You'll be ok, you are majorly resourceful and you'll come out on top!

oh Liz! That sucks! How amazing that you guys have money in savings for this though, little blessings. I know you'll get through this, you've been through worse.

OMG, how scary! Can your dh get a job until Oncall puts you back to work? That way you can collect the unemployment and have your dh's income too.

we havent really gotten that far yet Jess, we have money to live on, so I dont know that I would ask that of him yet. Now if it got really bad, then maybe I would. We just dont have definite plans on anything yet.

Can someone tell me how unemployment works with side jobs. Like I know I can work for someone and as long as I get paid less than 600 i dont have to claim it on my taxes. Is that true for unemployment or do I have to claim every bit of income

That sure does stink. I'm sorry. Any time of the year to lose a job is rough.

I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this, especially since the job had seemed to be going so well for you! Are others being let go, or do you have the least seniority? I'm sure your husband wouldn't think twice about worknig for awhile until you can find something again! I'm not 100% on the unemployment issue, but I do know that when my sister was let go from her job shortly after 9/11 she was still able to work the part time job that she had and still collected unemplyment. I think they can give you an amount of what you can't go over in order to still collect. At least tax return time is coming soon!

As for your job-what a crappy way for them to end the year for you!

Liz-O, you can work a side job, but when you call in to report, it'll ask you how much you made/worked in the last week. They'll then reduce your unemployment amount by whatever you made. That's how Michigan is. I'm pretty sure Ohio is the same.

Breathe, doll, just breathe. I'm right here if you need anything. *hugs*
