OK... so I was going to get the cheapie 5.95 soup/salad/breadsticks... but I looked at the menu, and there was this [light dish!!] grilled chicken with apricot glaze served with broccoli and asparagus. *mouth waters* That was me. Oh, that was me...

it was SOOOOO delicious. Add to that a couple breadsticks and some minestrone soup. mmmmmm hmmmmmm...

Maddie had mac n cheese and some of my soup. She's turned into quite the little soup eater. She even eats the beans and tomatoes!

So, 25.00 later (with a nice tip), I left for Publix. woot.

yummy.

(ps... at publix, I spent 14.38 and saved 61.37! )

Here's my breakdown of what I got... but with the gluten thing in your house, I know it's tougher for you.
I went to a local grocery called Publix. I had a coupon from another local grocery (winn dixie) for 10.00 off a 50.00 purchase...I also got some things that were not grocery items--because I got an overage.

4 boxes of cookie crisp cereal (BOGO @4.79, had a 1.00 coupon and a .75 coupon)
1 box of nature valley granola bars (2.89, and had a coupon to get it free with the cereals)
1 box of Kashi crackers (3.39, and I had a coupon to get it as a freebie)
1 box of hungry jack pancake mix (1.99, no coupon)
1 crisco cooking spray (on sale for 2.00, and I had a coupon to get it free with any hungry jack product)
6 boxes of ghirardelli brownie mix (totally didn't need it, but it's my FAVORITE! BOGO@2.69, and had two .55 coupons and four .50 coupons)
2 boxes of ronzoni lasagna noodles (BOGO@1.79, no coupon)
2 jars of bertolli pasta sauces (BOGO@2.49, no coupon)
3 5-lb. bags of unbleached gold medal flour (.99 each--I bake a lot of bread, so I jump at the good stuff for this price!)
1 bottle of purell hand sanitizer (1.29, had a 1.50 coupon that was adjusted down to 1.29)
2 24-oz jars of Mott's natural applesauce (BOGO@1.79)
2 packages of kotex pads (BOGO@2.50, and had two 2.00 manu coupons)
1 bottle of store brand cocoa butter lotion (3.19, had a coupon to get it free)
1 tin of sugar free altoid mints (1.99, had a .75 coupon)

Now... I didn't get any meat or anything, but that's because I have about 40 # of meat in my freezer already... I stockpile, so I just get BOGO stuff and add to my stockpile. I need to keep my eyes peeled for a good meat sale. I can get whole chickens for about .69/lb. if I look hard enough. Split chicken breasts go on BOGO @ 2.99/lb. (or less). etc. I get that and add to my stock in the freezer when they have that...

Hooray for a yummy lunch, Kim. I'm glad you had a blast.

And, about gluten ... I have a gluten issue as well, and I know Jess' son has at least a wheat (if not gluten, I don't remember) issue as well as a number of others. Saving money is still totally possible. It's convenience food that's usually packed with gluten. Yes, gluten free pasta or cereal are usually more expensive, but if you're saving a boodle on the rest of your groceries it shouldn't be a big deal to cover the gap. You can save tons if you buy the gluten free ingredients and just make your own stuff. Then you guarantee there's no cross contamination, etc. With a little practice, it isn't *that* awful.
