Well, we just did Christmas with my mom and sisters and let me just say-MY OLDER SISTER IS NUCKING FUTS!!!!!!!

Keep in mind we spent about $250 for my mom and sisters...we walked away with $275 in gift cards/cash PLUS gifts! They are insane! The most insane-MY SISTER!!!

Besides giving us $100 to save up for a Kirby (we're seriously thinking about it), she got the kiddo:

16 inch interactive R2D2 w/ 3 year warranty from The Sharper Image-I knew this was pricey, but checked online-119.95 plus 29.95 for the warranty
15 AAA batteries, 15 AA batteries, 10 D batteries, and 3 specialty circle batteries for the R2D2 and med kit (and she def didn't get them for free!) That's probably 30-40 bucks for batteries!!!!
Medical Kit with 2 packs of character bandaids, 2 packs of Nexcare bandaids, and 2 "ace" bandages
5 wooden cars, trucks, planes, etc
airplane ornament

She probably spent over 200 altogether! What a nut case!!! I keep telling her not to go overboard and she just shrugs her shoulders!

Well a part of me hopes that maybe she got the stuff at least on sale (even if it's not what we'd consider a sale). But I'm guessing probably not from what you're saying. Can she afford it? If so I probably wouldn't worry about....I'd still think she was nuts, but at least not worry about taking it.

I don't know if she got it on sale...I doubt it. She thinks I am crazy with all my deal findings! Can she afford it-totally! She lives at home with my mom still (she's older than me). She moved in when she graduated school, which was 6 months after my dad left. She moved to help my mom not lose the house. She pays mom 400/month for rent, utilities and food and such. She commutes downtown so is gone most of the time. It works out well for both of them! The only other real bills she has are her student loan (not sure if she paid it off or not), car, insurance, and whatever fun stuff she wants to do. She totally collects Star Wars stuff and will spend hundreds on it at a time! She likes to travel. She's been to England, Ireland, and Italy (3 different trips), and China. She also went to CA for a week last spring to go to some Star Wars convention. When she came home from that she had about 50 bukcs worth of stuff for him just because!! She just got a raise and makes about 75K now. I just think she's nuts for spending that much! It's more than what we-his parents-spent on him!!!!

Yeah but he doesn't know that she spent more. He has no idea how much a kitchen set costs vs. an R2D2. And in 20 years I quarentee no one will remember what he got this Christmas. Which is kind of why it's crazy for her to spend that much because at his age they totally have no idea.

I just looked at the warranty info and sure enough, after tax...160 and change!

I know she does it bc she loves Star Wars stuff and obviously she loves him too! He has a few other "toys" that aren't even opened. I guess it gives me consolation that when he gets older, if times are ever tough he could sell it!

Well... it is nice to be generous, and some people just love to give. I love to give and be generous, but I try to do it at a bargain, even though we COULD afford to go nutso at Christmas or anytime, and sometimes I do... but everything I buy, I buy on sale.

As for Kirby... ;drool... I wanted one for 12 years and I finally got myself a refurbished one on overstock.com a couple months ago, plus I did it through mypoints, AND used my american express card... so I feel I did pretty well with that purchase. I am really enjoying it.

Enjoy the gifts.

Some people just want to spoil others. She's an auntie, with money, and few responsibilities. Even I used to spoil the pseudo-niece with my less than stellar income simply because I could. *shrug*
