Its been forever since I posted here, but we're going onto another very long journey of TTC # 2...as most of you know we struggle with infertility, due to issues on my husbands side, it took us 26 months to conceive Jacob and now its going onto 21 months of trying for # 2...its unbelievably draining. While we've been struggling with TTC, my dh's mother has been battling cancer, she had been battling it for over 2 years but about 3 months ago the doctors told her the chemo was no longer fighting the cancer and it spread throughout her whole body and all the chemo was doing was making her even sicker so she opted to stop treatment, once she did she went down hill fast. About 2 months ago she became bed ridden, on oxygen, and only awake maybe 30 minutes out of 24 hours, it was the most heart wrenching thing I've ever been through, Jacob seen her once during that time about a month and a half ago and just thought his memema was sleeping, well that was the last time me and Jacob saw her. My dh's job was so understanding and allowed him a lot of time out of work to be with her 3 hours away until she passed away on August 20th...my dh no longer has any living parents, his dad passed in 2001 and now his mom...our family has been through so much, I held out so much hope that God took one life and replaced it with another as I ovulated just a day before my mother in law's death but it wasn't his will, af started today.
More on the TTC front, my dh finally got a diagnosis at the end of July, over our years of wondering why dh had low counts and sperm issues, no doctor could tell us why, finally we seen a male infertility specialist/urologist that found bilateral varicocele's on dh's testicles...its basically an enlarged vein thats supposed to be pumping blood back up to the heart but its pumping abnormally and heating the testicles up, causing sperm issues and infertility...both dh's testicles had them though his most recent counts and numbers have been nearly normal at times and then low at others but with varicocele's counts can fluctuate greatly, I guess we nailed a good count time when we conceived Jacob, huge hit or miss. Well one positive is that it can be repaired and the doctor estimated about 60% of couples that were experiencing infertility and had varicocele's and got them repaired went on to conceive children naturally. There is a chance the repair will make no difference but we feel we need to try as insurance covers 80% of the procedure which will come out to costing around $1,000 as to where our second option was IVF, which is about $8,000-$12,000 depending on where you go. So huge prayers that this procedure corrects the problem! I couldn't even image if the repair made things "normal" for us and allowed us to CHOOSE when we wanted another baby...oh my...the thought seems impossible.
Dh goes in for his repair on Sept 14th and it takes at least 3 months for the repair to make any improvement on his sperm, and closer to 6 months to see the most change. I am not expecting a conception until next year but I'd love a miracle or surprise before then which I know is possible because we conceived Jacob naturally. Sorry this was so long, just thought I'd fill everyone in on me...I'm still out there and still trying very hard for # 2!
