I've always stuck my hand down their throat. I had a dog that started to have seizures, so I had to give him like 7 phenobarbs.

We have 4 cats...Our male cat has to take 2 pills everyday for the rest of his life. He has been on the pills for 3 months now. The pills are for his heart problem. He has a enlarged heart. My hubby gives the pills to him twice a day. He just holds Sylvesters head back, puts the pill way in his throat then puts a little water in with a medicine dropper. Sylvester actually knows when it is medicine time. He comes to my hubby wanting it.(MEOWING) We think he knows it helps him. He even hops up in the same spot where my hubby puts him for the medicine.
The Vet told us he will die with out the medicine. My Hubby is so good about giving it to him twice daily.

Gizmo just eats it the way it is. I have never had a problem giving him anything.

I worked at a vets office. The best ways we found if you cannot just "throw" it back in thier throat and have them swallow it are:
In the "meatball" in the canned wet food
peanut butter
wrapped in chesse
There is a product called Pill Pockets (inexpensive). They are like a dog/cat treat that is a pocket (hence the name), you insert the pill, press and seal it and they eat it right up. I think they have a website if anyone is interested. Probably pillpockets.com but I'm not sure
