I just wanted to share a video with anyone who has parrots or wants to own parrots to spread some knowledge of the kind of care a lot of these birds don't get not only in america but all over the world. A lot of the birds shown in the video self mutilated because they were either used solely for breeding or because of people who have absolutely NO knowledge on the special care these exotic birds need. Some birds are simply discarded because the owners don't know how to handle behavioural issues and biting and they can't deal with it. It really is quite sad. My mom owns birdline.ca and takes in parrots and other small birds that people just don't have time for or they don't know how to deal with a self mutilating bird among other issues.
Please take some time to watch this video and if you are someone who wants to get a parrot just because they can talk, I hope this will make you think twice. When you see all of those cute parrots in the pet stores stop and think about the breeders who brought them in and what the parent birds look like. I bet many of them look like those birds in the video. Pet stores do not care who buys a bird just so long as they can get rid of it and get the 1500$+ they are asking...
Just want to warn that some of the photo's in this video may be hard to look at so please watch at your own discretion.
