My cat Fred is a year older than my son. I heard all kinds of stories about cats, and worried about him because he can be cranky and he plays rough (like fighting with my hand). All during my pregnancy he slept on my stomach, right up till the end. When my son was born he decided it was his job to watch out for him. If Philip cried Fred would check on him and then come and glare at us, and then go back to the baby and back to us until we took care of it. As Philip grew the cat's tolerance grew, too. Philip could do things to him that anyone else would get bit for, and he would give him so many warnings, as would we, and as he grew older Fred has less patience, but with Philip being 8, he now gets a hiss, a yowl, a smack (declawed), before a bite that has never drawn blood.
I'm now 8-11 weeks pregnant and he's started over. He sleeps on or next to my stomach and he's taken it as his job to protect me. We had a plumber the other day and he watched him to make sure he didn't get close, and when he got bored with that he came and laid down near me like he was guarding me. He decides when it's bed time. He stares at me until I follow him to bed, and when I shower or bathe he sits in the bathroom and watches me. It's funny.
