I think it probably isn't the cat and something else that you have on you. A lotion or perfume, your shampoo, type of make up, really it could be anything. If they are allergic to your cat, they will be allergic whether the hair is coming from you or your son. So, it leads me to believe that maybe it is something else that is on you that you simply may not be aware of and maybe they don't even know they're allergic to it.
Or maybe since you're an adult and at eye level with them they're exposed to the hair that is on you more. I know most kids tend to go off and play and not spend a lot of time around the adults, so maybe it's a proximity issue...they're closer to you than him.
