Have you ever volunteered for either a rescue or shelter? Have you/are you a foster parent?

I volunteer with the rescue I work with monthly. They hold an adoption event at Petco the first Sunday of every month and most months I am there. Plus I am a foster parent for them as well. My current foster I have had since about a week before Christmas. I do not get paid, nor does anyone give me food, so I donate food treats, and toys to the foster as well.

Does the rescue you work for do predominantly Boxers, Meghan? Or is it an all breed, all animals?

Back in 2000, I used to foster elderly Basset Hounds for a rescue group who was short on volunteers.
I also didn't get paid, and anything I bought the dogs was all out of my own pocket. I loved it, though!

I also used to frequent local shelters and pull GSD's for a GSD rescue near my home.

Well it used to be all Boxers, but then they found that there is no Rottie rescue here so they started doing Rotties too and then the Bull Dog rescue closed down so now we do Boxers, Rotties, and Bull Dogs. Personally I will not foster a Rottie due to their typically high pray drive and that I have cats, so I keep it to Boxers and MAYBE a Bull Dog one day, but for right now I keep my fostering to Boxers, and typically males unless it is a female that is known not to have female aggression issues. After having a female attack my female, I just refuse to let it happen again, she's too ill to be have to be forced to defend herself like that.

I volounteered when I was younger at our local shelter. I couldn't do much because I was only about 12, and had to have my mother w/ me. But I loved it. It made my day to go in and take the dogs out for walks, and cuddle w/ the cats.... I really want to foster, but its just not the right time now w/ my older cat.
