Are your pets allowed on the furniture? If not, how do you teach them to stay off?

Anywhere I can sit, my dog can sit except at (not on) the kitchen table (though I'm pretty sure she could do it if she tried and I allowed it)...

Absolutely not. No couch, beds, etc, doggies stay on the floor. Never had to teach them to stay off it was just never allowed so they've never done it.

Our pets are not allowed on our couches, and on the beds if - and only if - they are invited to do so.

neither pet is allowed unless invited. They don't generally want to.

Ditto. Funny how my dogs know that at my house it's not allowed but at our cottage and at my mom's they are and they know the difference.

The cat has free reign of the house. She's allowed on the couch and bed. lol

The Lab is NOT allowed on the furniture or the bed.. We never allowed her on the furniture since she was a little puppy..

My cat is allowed on most furnature. Couch, chair, old computer chair bed. But he's got a habit of getting on tables and he's not allowed there. We've broken 11 glasses in recent months because of it. We use the spray bottle method to let him know he's done something wrong, but it only works for a few minutes, then he's back at it, or he does it while we're in bed.

I know we're getting a dog this fall, and I don't care what the man says, the animal will be on the floor, NOT on my couch. I'm a little afraid of dogs, and I don't much like the way they smell when they've gotten wet... and I'm not going to have that on my furnature.. at least the cat doesn't smell.

The cats can go anywhere except the counters and kitchen table. The dog is allowed on the couch but right now I'm starting to regret that and trying to convince her to hang out other places. She likes to sleep on top of the couch cushions, which was fine when she was a 6lb puppy... but a 20lb beagle (still a puppy, but older!) - not good!

Ever since the dogs were puppies, we haven't been very strict about them staying off the furniture. So, now when we try to keep them off of the furniture, it's almost as if they are laughing at us. lol

well i had a sticky situation.my dogs were always allowed on the furniture until we got new furniture.i really wouldn't mind but the whole reason we had to get the new set was because they really wrecked the other set lol......where they laid was a permanant dirt stain and it was scratched and ripped. letting them on the furniture wears it out quickly.we had a 150 pound rotty and he would always lay in the same spot on the couch, well of course a dogs weight is not spread out like a human so with all the weight constantly on that one spot it made a sinkhole in the couch lol....now he's passed away and we only have the beagle.right awat she wanted on the couch but we just said no and kept making her get down.then she wouldtry to sneak while we're not looking but we kept catching her so she gave up lol....she has a wonderful bed of her own.

The cats and dogs are encouraged to sit on the furniture, I love cuddling up with them.

Our 2 cats area allowed on the arm chair or couch - only allowed on our bed if we are in there and invite them in.

Our dog is not allowed on the furniture. As a puppy she was and it was a pain to train her otherwise - she learned and did really well for quite a while and now all of a sudden she's jumping back up there again.

I swear when we got her shaved this last time it shaved away everything we had taught her. lol.

OH and our cats will sometimes climb on the kitchen counter which we are trying to teach them not to. And our 1 cat will sleep on the dining room table and unfortunately now the other cat has just started this as well. VERY frustrating - not sure how to correct this.

The spray bottle trick does not work - it doesn't even phase them.

Our cat is allowed anywhere pretty much. We have big fluffy pillows on our couch and he's picked out one that he always likes to sleep on. He sleeps on my pillow at night and until we got a crib tent, he was getting a little too comfy in our new crib. But, we gave up on disciplining him. He climbs up on the counters, the fridge, and we just can't get him to stop! Oh well!
