I'm breastfeeding my almost 9 month old but need to supplement with formula. I've been working on this for the last several weeks and having a lot of trouble finding the right one.
He HATES all milk based formulas. I've tried enfamil, similac and good start. He LOVES isomil but it gives him diarrhea. I think the good start would be the best for him since my kids have all had trouble with casein.
Any suggestions for getting him to take the good start formula? Can I mix half and half with the soy? I'm worried about the diarrhea as it may mean an allergy. Of course, it could be a coincidence but I don't think so.
Do you have any expressed breastmilk? Sometimes it helps to mix half BM and half formula. Or if he likes the soy, mix it with the soy. There is nothing wrong with mixing two different types of formulas. Just make sure you use the right scoop and measure each individual one correctly.
When I switch Kaylin form BM to formula, I did 3/4 BM:1/4 formula for a day, then 1/2:1/2 for a day, then 1/4:3/4 for a day then switch completely to formula. It went very smoothly.
But if it's just a taste issue, and he seems to like the taste of soy - try those ratios with the soy:good start.
I'm not sure about the diarrhea issue..... if it seemed to be isolated to when he was taking the soy formula, chances are its an allergy. But it could have been any of the solids he was eating too? Tough one.... hopefully switching to good start will help!
