Kimmies post (in the chatter thread) got me wondering
do you ladies do your own birthday cakes for your kids - or do you buy them?

If you haven't had a first birthday yet - do you plan on making or buying?

I plan to always make them it's something special that I like to do - I'm not creative at all, but I love doing birthday cakes!

in the past I have always bought them but this year I decided I would try making birthday cakes/cupcakes. sooooo I am gonna try LOL. Sydney will have piggy cupcakes and for Sam's first bday maybe I will do the Snake Cake I was going to do for Sydney and have a jungle theme, the snake cake is super cute and I did a trial run and it was pretty easy so I think I can handle it!

DH & I both hate cake, so we never have cake at our birthday parties. Now that we have Ellie we will have cakes for her birthdays. I'm a notoriously horrible cook, so probably we will buy them.

Your cakes came out really cute! I always buy them....

But my sister is planning for my nephews 1st birthday in April, she is making him a Elmo birthday cake. She bought all kinds of kits, so maybe I will borrow some of her decorating kits and make Tommy's 1st Birthday cake.

you can rent the cake pans too. We have "bulk barn" here and that is where you can rent them

I can cook anything but I'm HORRIBLE when it comes to baking. So, I buy them. LOL. It's rather spend $30 a cake that I know will look nice then stress over trying to make it myself...I'm just not that creative when it comes to cakes. However, when I was young I used to work at a bakery (as a cashier) so I know how to write on the cakes.
