Hi I have a 5w old daughter who's taking 3-4oz every 2 hours during the day and night, sometimes more. My MIL tells me this is way too much, and that she isn't crying from hunger but possibly wanting to comfort suck or experiencing gass... But she can be screaming and after I've given her the bottle she calms right down and goes to sleep.
Basically what I'm asking is... is it normal for a 5w old to feed every 2-3 hours? Is there any way I can get her to go longer between feeds? She is very gassy and cries most of the day, I'm hoping I'm not contributing to her discomfort by overfeeding her... I've tried holding her off a bit with a pacifier but she spits it out and cries. And obviously if I think she's hungry I'm going to feed her... MIL keeps telling me I shouldn't though, and that she isn't hungry. Sorry I'm just so confused :x
Your MIL is wrong you have to feed them when they're hungry,Every baby is different my son ate 4oz every 3 hours at the age. If she's having gas try giving her some gas medicine, change formula,or change bottles.
My son had a lot of gas that was causing some discomfort for him. The gas drops helped a little, but not enough. We switched to the Dr. Brown's bottles and they have been amazing! Besides the typical gas discomfort that every baby will probably get sometimes, he has had no problems.
Oh and he is 4 weeks and the last few days, he'll eat 2-4 oz every hour during the day. At night, he'll wake up every 3-4 hours to eat 4 ounces and go right back to sleep. I hear they have growth spurts around this age which causes them to eat a lot more, and also during the day they'll want to eat more to "get ready" for the night.
