Hi ladies,
I am a frequent lurker here. My baby was born 6 weeks premature and has never gotten the hang of breastfeeding due to various factors including being in the NICU for 3 weeks. Anyway, I am pumping and supplementing with NeoSure. I'm not sure if I like the NeoSure, but that's another post.

Anyway, here's the question...
I just boiled several ounces of water to bottle and save for mixing Annie's bottles. Without thinking, I mixed two bottles with the recently boiled water, which was obviously very hot. I then put the bottles in the fridge. Then I started thinking, hmmmm, should I have done that? I looked it up on the net and I am finding two different answers. Some say it's okay to mix it with hot water, then cool it, then reheat before giving to baby. Some say it should only be mixed with cold water. What's the answer, ladies?

I would appreciate your replies since she will be ready to eat again in a couple of hours and I am thinking of throwing out those 2 bottles.

Thanks!
Leslee

It is important to LET THE WATER COOL before adding it to the formula mix. The American Dietetic Association recommends this because it is possible that adding hot water directly to the mix might affect the stability of the nutrients.

This was all I could find. I make my formula "on demand" with warm tapwater. We use the powdered kind.
