Well, I was expecting my period about two weeks ago. I'd started getting symptoms typical to my PMS symptoms and had very light spotting. I couldn't understand why my period just wasn't starting. About a week ago, I started to notice breast tenderness and continued very light cramping/bloating and gassiness. As you can imagine, I was getting very frustrated that my period was taking so long to get here. Mid-week this past week I asked my husband what he'd think if I was indeed pregnant. He said "I guess we'll have a baby then!"
So yesterday after I woke up, while my husband was getting ready to go to an interview for a new job, I took the test. He poked his head in the bathroom to say goodbye and saw me standing there with a look of shock on my face. Then he saw the test. His initial response was pure excitement. I was still in a state of shock but he told me that he wanted me to get into the doctor for a urine test yesterday. My doctor won't take pregnancy patients until 8 weeks, and I'm not there yet, but I have an appointment set for 8 weeks. Then he said he wanted to start announcing it to our entire family. While I'm a bit uneasy about that, I couldn't keep it in either.
For his family, he just wanted to call them. They are all very excited. His mom screamed. His dad laughed...in a very funny way. We also talked to his Grammie and she is just tickled! Nobody was expecting this, so it was a TON of fun to surprise them.
For my parents I decided to send them a rush boquet of flowers with a note that said "Happy Valentines Day. Congratulations Grandma and Grandpa!" But I called my dad and told him not to open it until he and my mom were both there. They were going down to the cabin last night, so he put the flowers in the trunk in their delivery box so they wouldn't get crushed and had my mom look at them when they stopped for dinner on the way down. She called at 5:45pm and thanked me for the beautiful flowers, but said NOTHING about the card. I asked if she'd read it and she hadn't. They were already back on the road and stuck in rush hour traffic so she said she'd read it when they got in to the cabin that night. I was feeling so impatient!! But she called about 9:30 last night and said "Are you serious???" She and my dad are so excited!!
I've been exhausted lately, so I slept most of the morning today. Probably about 12 hours of sleep between last night and today. I have read that inconsistent sleep and exhaustion is typical of this stage in pregnancy, so I guess that's normal.
