Our little smunchkin has arrived, and little he is.
We are in love...
Contractions started 5 pm friday the 27 th. I was sure they were just false labour. They stayed 10 minutes apart, but didn't stop. We had visitors friday night and we watched a movie. Good thing it was dark cause every ten minutes I would cling to Ryans hand and squeeze. After the company left I went to bed, and tried to sleep. That didn't work so I came on JM and updated you all I also researched false labor and was convinced that was what it was. All nigh they continued. In the morning I decided to call my midwife and see what she thought, but again I was sure it was false labour. She said to just keep and eye on it and if they got closer together, or they got more intense she would arrange to check me.
We puttered around in the morning and I told Ryan that we should prolly get the rest of our home birth stuff. So we went to Walmart and bought what we needed. Every contraction I would duck down and aisle and lean on Kaydens stroller.
After we left Walart we debated whether we should go to home and outdoor garden show. By now the contractions were getting a little more intense and I was scared to be walking in such a public place.
We decided to go and if we left we just wasted a bit of money. Still every ten minutes I would clutch ryans arm and lean on the stroller and pretend I was interested in some display.
We called the midwife as we were leaving just to tell her that they were getting stronger but still ten minutes apart. She said come in to the hospital and I'll check you, ( she was with another client in the hospital. ) up till this time I had beenplanning a homebirth. ( I could on;t have a home birth at 37 weeks and I was only 36 and 4. We got to go to the nicer, brand new hospital rather than the one that is close by. We didn't think we'd be staying but we went home packed "some" clothes, packed up Kayden, brought him to the bbsitters, and off we went. Stopped by a gas station, and that when things picked up a bit,as I was waiting for Ryan to pay, buy candy, (hes a candy freak ) and listen to this... Change the oil . I was having strong ones and I was getting ******. (shoulda clued me in that this was mayb the real deal.) On the 1/2 hour dirve they changed to every 8 minutes.
We get to the hospital, pee in cup, get hooked up, and wait. After the nonstress test, she checked me, warning me that women who have had chldren are often a 1 or 2 without being in labour. But she then annouced that I was a 4!!
She said you will likely be having your baby tonight. Ryan and I couldn't believe our ears.
This was around 5 o clock.
They got a room ready and as were waiting the contractions started picking up.
Almost as soon as I got to my room I went in the shower and stayed there until I felt I had to push. The shower was great, I moaned and groaned my way through those ontractions, stuffing my face inbetween. I was SOOO hugry. At one point (and this sounds cheesey I know) Ryan and I kissed durning the contractions cause he had read that somewhere.. And it WORKED!! No lie!! It wouldn't have worked throught hte crazy ones at the end but now going from a 4 to a 7 it was great. (hope you all don't think I am crazy ) I felt the urge push at about 7:30 so they told me to get in bed I did and they checked me and I was only a 7
Two minutes later I really felt I had to push they checked me gain and I was 9.
i was pushing with out being allowed I couldn't stop, it was soo hard to not push. Two contraction later they told me I could push and within 4 minutes he was OUT!! I was apologizinf for being loud, and the doctor told me not to be silly that labourin women never have to apologise. (Ryan later told me that I wasn't hardly making ne noise, but to me I sounded like a cow
They delivered the plancenta, or rather I did and then proceeded to stitch up the two small lacerations, nothing compared to hour longstintching up after my episiotomy and tear with Kayden. I held him for about an hour after I had him and then they took him to weigh him.
born at 8:00
on a side note the lady that my midwife was with earlier in the day delivered at 8:01 so I ended up for the actual delivery a really nice doctor. At that point I really didn't care.
I had anice shower (sitting ) as they checked Austin over and changed the bed, and then settled nicely into bed. hmmm ANd I could sit, after Kayden it was brutal I could move or shift or hardly breastfeed.
And thats all I have for now, unless I remember some interesting tidbits.
I got the hospital record of my labor and they recorded it to be 4 hours and 19 minutes long. They didn't include the prelabour from 5 pm friday to 5 pm satuday.\
