On 4/21 I had my weekly doc appt in the morning and was very disappointed to hear I was still not at all dialated and only 30% effaced. We actually scheduled my induction for next week then. Well...........low and behold, my water broke at home at 7:20 pm that night! Called my doc & she had me go straight to L&D to get checked (i don't think anyone really believed me that my water had broke then! Lol). But it did! I got admitted around 9pm. They started pitocin around midnight. Wow....does that get your contractions going! I was contracting perfectly...every 2 minutes and very strong. Except one problem...I was barely dialating. Finally, at 3pm on the 23rd I broke & got the epidural (15 hrs of natural labor was brutal!!). Anyways, around 10pm they checked me again and I was still only at around 5cm and Hannah was laying posterior (face looking up instead of down). At that point my water had been broke for over 24hrs (which is the standard 'cutoff' time or infection could set in) and I had been in labor for 27 hours. They gave me til 11pm and came & checked again...no changes - if anything my cervix was tightening (possibly from being overworked due to long labor). My doc calls c-section....that was hard to grasp, but at that point I was completely exhausted and just wanted her out. And wow! Do they move fast once they call the CS! They had me prepped & Hannah came at 11:45pm! That was weird. After she was born, Steve (DH) followed her to nursery while I got sewn up. I fell right asleep and don't remember anything after her & Steve leaving the OR. Finally around 2am I am released from recovery. They brought Hannah to me around 2:30 and I just couldn't take my eyes off her...it is the most amazing feeling in the world! Currently we are both doing well. Hannah is an angel baby & barely ever cries! I am healing ok. Definitely sore in the abdomen and then also sore from the 15 hrs of natural labor (killed my back, arms, shoulders, etc) cuz I was nearly breaking the arms off the bed in pain! We were supposed to be released on Sunday, but my doc let us leave Saturday afternoon since I am doing so well. I am just much more comfortable in my own home. Being a mom is just sooo amazing! I can't take my eyes off of her! And Steve makes the perfect father! He is so loving to her and spends every minute he has with her. I love watching them together!
My labor & delivery certainly did not go as planned, but I would not change any of it for the world!
