I had my 36w appt on Friday, May 22. DH was supposed to be home from work in time to go w/me, but did not make it. So, I took DD to daycare then off to my appt (8:45am) I went.
Got called back, weighed and had to go potty in a cup. Can you believe that I had to go so bad that I totally forgot to pee in a cup!!! The nurse laughed at me and I laughed at myself too!!! BP was good...told nurse about the ctx and menstrual like cramps I was having the day before....no big deal to me.
Dr comes in....baby's hb was 160....belly measured good. She left, I got undressed to have my cervix checked. Side note.....at my 35w appt, another dr in the office decided to check me and do my GBS test. My cervix was 2-3cm and 50% effaced. Back to 36w appt....dr says lets check you and see what you are. She says....well, you are 5-6cm. WHAT!!! NO WAY!!! Instant panic sets in...I sat there thinking....I got this far w/little or no pain. This is cool. Then thinking that I was going to go home and not do much for the weekend. Dr had other ideas.
I was told to go across the rd to the hospital....I couldn't go home and get a bag for me or baby (both of which were not packed yet). She did say that I could try and get a hold of DH. The plan was to go to L&D, get hooked up to monitors and see if I was contracting. Got registered, had to have lab work done, then to L&D. The nurse was going thru procedure like I was staying so that she would be prepared. Got hooked up and yup, I was having ctx. 2 min's apart. Dr comes in....says we are breaking your water and you are having a baby today!!! I am so not ready for this....
Call DH, tell him to get to the hosp. Call my sister, tell her it is baby day. Both are on their way. Dr broke my water at 10:30 am.
I was going to try and go natural....didn't work out that way. About 12:30 or so, the back labor had done me in and I wanted drugs. Epi man wan was there w/in 10 min!!! LOVED HIM!!! So...got a shot in the back (was at 7cm then) and then it was so nice. Could feel pressure, but no pain. Within 10 min the pressure was there.....nurse checked me....10cm, 100% effaced. YEAH!! We waited 10min or so and I started to push. After about 4 pushes we all deteremined that my pushing was doing nothing, so I was just going to have to wait. Within another 1/2 hr, drugs were gone. All the pain was back....full force!!!
After a while the nurse had me lay on my left side to see if baby would come down the birth canal more. That did the trick. It only took 2 cts for me to feel the urge to push. Back to my back to push. DH on one leg, sister on the other leg. Dr comes in....says....go back to your side to push.....at this point I just wanted this baby out. I was in so much pain, I could not even stand it. I pushed on my side for 3 ctx then moved back to my back. Five more pushes and I hear the dr tell me to open my eyes and watch DH deliver our baby.....and here baby comes.....ITS A GIRL!!!! Welcome to the world Stella Rae!!! Stella Rae was born at 36w1d, 4:21pm, 7lb 3oz, 20in long.
Luckily I did not tear and have no stitches. The hemi's are killing me though!!! Stella have a very bruised head....she came out face up!!! Poor baby.....She was stuck by my pubic bone that is why I was having such horrible back labor and why I had such a hard time pushing her out. She was stuck!!! Her bruising is doing better everyday though!!!
