On October 15th I had some bleeding so I went to the hospital. I was hooked up to the machines and the nurse told me that I was having regular contractions. I was checked by the doctor, no dilation. I was given a sonogram and everything looked fine. I was given a shot of terbutaline and given some vistiral to stop the contractions. They did the strip test to check to see if it was possible I would go into labor within the next two weeks which came up as positive- but the nurse said because I was bleeding i was sure to get a positive anyways. The doctor gave me a rx for the vistaril to take every 4 hours for the duration of my pregnancy and I went home. I went to my follow up appt and still no dilation.
On November 2nd I went to work but was having regular contractions every 10 minutes. I called my nurse's line and she said usually they don't say to go into the hospital until you're 5 min apart, but come on in anyways because of the hospital visit in October. I didn't hear any urgency in her voice, so I continued my day, and planned to go on it if they contractions were still there after work.
They didn't go away, and at around 8ish they were 5 minutes apart so I told my fiance to stay home with our daughter and I would go into the hospital. I expected them to give me the shot again, and send me on my way.
I drove to the hospital which is about an hour away. I was still having contractions every 5 minutes. I went to triage and they took my bp which was unusually high. I remember commenting on it and the nurse took it four times. I was in triage for maybe a half hour and then they gave me a room. I was hooked up to the machines again and the contractions were closer together. The nurse left the room.
I felt like I was leaking water and I looked down, and It was blood. I called the nurse in. I told her how much pain I was in at that point, and I guess because she saw me 5 minutes ago and I was fine she thought I was overreacting. She seems annoyed. Another nurse came in who was watching my contractions and told the nurse to check me because of the frequency. She checked me and I was completely dilated. Everything happened so quickly from there. they rushed me up to delivery. A lot of doctors were in the room. I asked for an epidural. The nurse told me I would get one when we got to delivery. I knew she was lying. Some doctor I never met delivered my baby. I don't even remember the pain of pushing, just the contractions. I guess I was in shock. They held my baby up for me to see, but then took him away. The nurse called my fiance for me to tell him I had the baby. Andy was 5lbs exactly at birth. Not an ideal birth story, but I get to bring my baby home soon. A lot of mamas in my place cannot. So I have to be grateful of that.

Yes the doctor said I had a partial placental abruption. I can't believe I forgot to put that there. I was also group b strep positive, which for some reason they tested at 12 weeks for, and gave me a round of anti biotics. I assume there were going to test again. But I didn't have enough time for an IV of anti biotics. Apparently he is fine though as far as that is concerned. I feel so guilty that I didn't go to the hospital earlier in the day. At least then I could have gotten the epidural, could have gotten the anti biotics and my fiance could have seen my son being born. It's hard for me to overcome that.

Wow, what a story- you are really tough to be able to drive an hour having all those contractions! Sounds like Andy has a hell of a mommy!

I am glad that he is doing alright and that he will be home soon. Try not to beat yourself up about not going to the hospital earlier, I know it's easier said than done (we are often are own harshest critic) but you have support here.
Keep us posted on how things are going and get those pics up soon!

Wow- I am glad everything turned out alright in the end. That is traumatic and I'm sorry you had to go through that. Amazing how quickly you dialated-- that nurse should have been upfront about the epidural. That was unethical of her in my opinion.

Can't wait until your little one is home.

Congrats on your sweet baby Andy!! I cant believe he came so quickly! Thanks for sharing your story w/ us.. and like everyone else has said, you really cant beat yourself over it! If you would have known he was coming so quickly, you would have done everything differently. You have a unique story and years down the line, you'll have a good story to tell your little man!

Wow I can't believe how fast that went for you! I'm so sorry it was less than ideal circumstances Try not to be too hard on yourself about your fiance not being there and not going earlier. For all you know they may have sent you home if you would have gone in earlier. And I was just watching a Baby Story today and a woman was having her third, her husband missed the birth of her first two because he was parking the car and she went from 3cm to 10 in like 5 minutes and his missed them. For the third one he double parked and walked away, LOL.

Glad baby Andy will be home soon with you!
