Hi! I'm new on this board, I am Jen, SAHM to Matilda, my 7 1/2 month old daughter. I started feeding her solids 8 days ago. I had planned to wait until 8 months but at 7 months the pediatrician recomended we give her more iron. Matilda was not having any part of the poly vi-sol drops so we decided to start the iron fortified rice cereal.

Anyway, I started the rice cereal 8 days ago, and home made green beans 4 days ago, and I'm planning to introduce a new food tomorrow.

Before this she was exclusively breastfed.

She was having a BM every 5-7 days. In the last 4 days she's been having a BM in nearly every diaper! I had heard that the rice could back her up, I certainly didn't expect the oppisite.

It is not diarhea, it's actually thicker than it had been before (sorry if TMI), but it is SO frequent.

Is this normal? If not, is it because I'm over feeding her? Is it a sign of a reaction to the food? How much should I be feeding her? (right now I'm giving her 1/4c. cereal and 2 oz veg 2x a day and if she doesn't seem to want it I don't push it on her, but it's only been twice that she hasn't eagerly finished it)

Thanks for your input!

it could be the change in her diet....her system is adjusting to the solids....

the green beans I would think if it is not watery, then it is probably ok. if you are concerned just give your ped a call....but I would think she is fine !

welcome to the board btw !!!!

Sounds like it could be from a change in her diet. I wish I could tell you more but Abbey only poops every 4-5 days! lol

Cam was like this he started pooping every other diaper when we started solids. I didn't worry until he stopped pooping and it was the cereal, but I would say as long as they are regular color and she is not uncomfortable before it happens she is probably just adjusting.
