I am starting my 5 month old on solids per her pediatrician. I tried giving her the rice cereal but it binds her up. Someone told me that I should start her on the oatmeal....doesn't that do the same thing? I was also wondering how you go abouts giving the jard foods. Do you start with fruits then veggies or vise versa? I know you have to give the same one for 3-5 days to make sure there is no allergy. Whats the schedule with giving the foods...example give 1 tsp cereal in morning with fruit and bottles, dinner give veggies and formula. I dont know how much to give her of each. I sound really stupid but the pediatrician never went over any of this with me.
Oatmeal isn't binding like the rice cereal. It doesn't really matter which you start first. They all say that if you start fruit first then baby won't want to eat veggies. I started Xan on fruit first but he would rather have veggies..lol. What you are doing sounds good. Starting out give about 1-2 tablespoons two times a day. When I started Xan I fed him at breakfast and supper.
If it's binding - try adding a little fruit to it - we started with applesauce, then tried prunes. We actually did the veggies first, to avoid the 'sweet' liking - but I don't think that really is much of an issue. I would mix a little fruit to the cereal (try one kind for 2-3 days to check for allergies). Hope this helps.
