How old was your baby when you started baby food?

What was the first thing you started them on?

I gave kiera cereal..only rice at 4.5mths. Than at 5mth we started switching around cereals to try them all, now shes almost 7 mths and has had

Rice cereal, barley cereal, oatmeal cereal, wheat cereal

Sweet potatoes, corn casserol (rice flour added to it which is why its a casserole) peas and just started carrots today. Were lagging a bit behind on veggies because she hated jarred stuff at first so i made her sweet potatoes and i made A LOT..but didnt know how to make anything else lol.

I have had to add rice to Jonathan's bottles since he was 3 weeks old. He has reflux. I took him to the doctor when he was 3 months old for an ear infection. The doctor we saw was the ped. who treated me when I was younger. He asked how much formula Jonathan was drinking. I said approx. 35 ounces per day with rice. He told me fed that child. I told him I was giving him formula as often as he was hungry. He laughed and said no, fed that child baby food. After a long discussion over the new guidelines of waiting until 6 months, he told me to start Jonathan on sweet pots 3x day. He said the new guidelines weren't for all babys. He said anytime a child drinks more than 30 ounces of formula in a 24 hour period, then you should start solids.

I'm sorry this was so long, but I hope it helps. Good Luck!!!

my doc said if my son at more than 40 ounces a day to start solids, otherwise to wait till he was 6 months. Cohen was eating more than 30 ounces a day when he was like a month old(4 ounces every 3 hours). So we started cereal at 5 months and one week just because I wanted to be able to take my time with the cereals, and then when he was 6 months we started veggies, once we made it through all the stage one veggies he started fruit. We are waiting till 8 months for meats but that is pretty soon.

I started at 4 months, and gave him cereal and carrots. He really needed to gain weight, he was so underweight. I even started before that and mixed cereal into his bottle for about 2 months prior. He was born at 9 lbs. 12 oz. and at 4 months was only 11 lbs. It was scary! But he is okay now and is a huge 17 lbs! Crazy!
