I went to a WIC appointment the other day. My baby is 10 monthes old. The woman at the appt. told me that they were definately encouraging women to shy away from feeding their babies food from jars. She said that with this processed refined baby food, your baby isnt getting all the calories that it needs. She told me not even to bother with the jars, and just get a little food processor and feed baby what I would eat (with the exception of the 'bad for baby' foods) Has anyone else heard this?
There is nothing wrong with baby food in jars. People have been using them to feed their babies for a long, long time!!
One thing I know for sure, though, is that when you are using jarred food and you feed baby straight from the jar, and they don't finish it all, it is not good to put it back in the fridge and use it again because the bacteria from babys mouth and saliva is in the jar of food and can cause problems, including salmonella poisoning.
BUT...you can just dump what you want in a bowl and put the rest of the jarred food in the fridge.
I do both making my own and feeding my son jarred food. I think it is your own preference what you choose to do based on your finances, your time and your own personal feelings on the subject!!
