My DS will try anything, but so much of what he eats he spits back out. I think he has some texture issues. Even puffs, which he greedily grabs up, often end up down his chin. So that's problem number 1. The second problem is what else to give him. He loves carbs (ie puffs, cereal, etc) and applesauce & yogurt (which I think goes along with his texture issue - those are smooth w/o chunks so he's happy!). He'll still eat some jar food, depending on the day, but isn't a big fan of the stage 3s. I've been buying those gerber graduate meals, with the veggies & meat and then pasta or whatever, and he'll try it but spits so much back out. He seems to like the veggies, but seems to HATE pasta - pickups, wheels, etc. And the meat is the worst - he rarely swallows it, usually won't even put it in his mouth. I bought those meat sticks gerber makes but we haven't tried them yet. But, he turned up his nose at a hot dog (I know, horrors, right? But I DID cut it lengthwise a couple times) so I'm not sure if he'll eat those. We tried deli meat, but he wouldn't even pick that up. Sometimes he likes me to spoon feed him, other times he wants nothing to do with it. I'm sure this is just a phase, but can you give me some suggestions to help my sanity in the meantime?!?! TIA!

You know, if it IS a texture issue.... maybe puree his food for him and let him go at his own pace. If need be, move back to stage 2s and give him a couple jars.

My 6 yr old has had TONS of issues with food textures... what we've learned over the years is to just accept it and fix her what we know she will eat and then every so often try and re-introduce things to see if anything has changed. She and I are MUCH happier now that we've adopted that policy!

If I were you, I'd work on variety. Expose him to everything that you can. He may just be a picky eater. I'd also try more table food cut up real small. Some babies just don't like baby food.

Thanks ladies!

That guide did help a bit. I should try some beans & tofu. Where the heck do you buy tofu? I've never been a fan myself. But perhaps he's a vegetarian-to-be (that'll kill my meat-loving DH!). Also beans - do you buy jars of them or what?

He doesn't seem into cheese at all - I've tried cottage, kraft singles, and bits of those sargento shapes (moon & stars) but if he puts it in his mouth at all he makes a wretched face & spits it out. I live in Wisconsin - how can my child not like cheese?!?!?!

Same thing with pasta. What kid doesn't like mac n cheese?!?!?!
