Anyone ever done this before? My son (9yo) and I did this last year together and I was running 5k several times a week before getting pregnant. I was so sick with hyperemesis while pg that I could hardly get out of bed, let alone run...so now that I'm feeling healthy again I decided to start it over again. I had to start at week 1 day1 AH!!!! I am so out of shape! lol But I love running and it helps make my mind peaceful so I'm sticking with it. This time my daughter (12yo) is interested in participating with me.
In case you aren't familiar with Couch to 5k here's a quick run down. It is jogging 3 days per week for a total of 9 weeks. Each week consists of progressively harder workouts i.e. Workout #1) brisk walk for 5 minutes, then alternate running for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds for a total of 20 minutes. After doing that work out 3 times you move onto the next work out which is brisk walk for 5 minutes then alternate 90 seconds of running with 2 minutes of walking for a total of 20 minutes. By week 9 you are running a solid 30 minutes. It totally tricks you into running! I swear it is the best thing ever, my son loved it and he always HATED running. You can do the "run" part as slowly as you needed to. There were some days our runs were as slow as our walks!
I have an app on my phone that keeps track of which workout and which day it is and it dings when it's time to walk or time to run so you don't even have to time yourself. I'm starting week 2 day 1 today. Anyone want to join me? I'd love to have a running buddy to keep me accountable!

I tried it a few years ago. But I have several things against me when it comes to running. 1-I'm asthmatic 2-I've torn every ligament or tendon in my ankles at least twice and they never healed properly and 3- I have huge boobs and they do not make sports bras that work for girls like me.
All that together left me unable to breathe, on crutches and with a sore neck. I'll stick to walking. But good luck to anyone who tries it!

I tried and failed. LOL I would love to do it again, DH is really good at it, me not so much. I am so out of shape I would walk, run, walk....walk...walk... run, walk till the end. I felt like I was defeating the program. Then we started planning the wedding and that left me... well... a mess. Maybe DH and I will try again... I know I need some more activity besides DTD LOL!
I really want to try weight training but it scares me, is there a couch to 5k for that? couch to 50lb?

I haven't done this, but I used to run all the time in high school and college. I used to run 5ks all the time in college too. I love running, but I hate doing it in the winter. LOL. I'm a wimp. hahaha. I would definitely join you if I had an indoor track or something though. Maybe here in a few weeks when it starts to warm up!

The app I use is C25K Lite. You can play your music in the back ground...just don't check any text messages! lol It will stop your timer!! and that sucks bc it makes you start that workout all over again. Def try it! let me warn you..week 1 is just about the most difficult one. Week two and 3 are suuuuper easy. Let me know what you think!

Thanks for the info and inspiration. I'm going to finally give this a try. I've never been a runner but I've really been wanting to start running and building my stamina.

YAY! Let me know what you think! There is a ton of info online about breathing rhytms and comfortable running/jogging posutures. If you find youself having a hard time finishing the workouts it's probably either breathing issues or posture issues... both of which are easy fixes with just a little practice! Do you live in a warmer climate or are you braving the cold? (a person burns 2-3 times more calories running in the cold than in the heat! )

OMG yes! Why is that? I'm rather "blessed" as well, and can't find a single freakin sports bra that supports me. I usually just wear two at once. But I see all these ultra-suportive bras for like A cups. Um...what? I've heard there are some good ones aviable on-line but they cost a freakin arm and a leg. And bra shoping on-line isn't something I like. Each bra fits a little differently.
I have heard off this, seems cool, I think I'll look at it a little more.I've heard studies have shown this type of work out, with spurts of fast/hard core workout, actually speed up your matablism as well. So...thats awesome.

I actually just started running/jogging this last July and got soooooooo hooked!!! Had worked my way up to being able to run/jog 6-7 miles which I was very proud of!!! The we went on vaca to Disneyland in November for a week, and then we all got sick and kids couldn't go to the gym daycare for like a month, and then we got sick again, lol, and then it was Christmas. I have been going still but not as often and it is driving me nuts. Now my stamina is way less and I can only do 3-4 miles and that is even with some walking...grrrr.
My dad got me a $100 fleet feet card for Christmas for new shoes!!!!!!! So my motivation is definitely back LOL!
