Hey girls! I know a lot of you were seriously interested in CDing future babies but had a lot of questions. Weeks ago I promised y'all a video to help answer some of those questions. While I did record it (30 minutes worth) I'm not able to get it uploaded. So I just wanted to give y'all an update and let you know I'm going to try to rerecord it (in shorter sessions) and get DH to video tape it for me.
I hope to have it up here for y'all tonight!
UPDATE:
Okay girls here are 3 short videos I did very rushed yesterday. I'm sorry it took so long! Again, this was rushed so don't laugh! I did leave out a few small details I later thought of that I'll list below. I'm going to be working to download the first video I made that a bit more thorough tonight so I'll hopefully have that one up soon as well. If you have any additional questions or if something still doesn't make sense feel free to ask. I hope these make sense and help, I know all the information can be very overwhelming!
CD: Pockets - YouTube
CD: AIO, AI2, Prefolds, Covers & Fitteds - YouTube
CD: Washing - YouTube
*All of the diapers (except flats/prefolds) I refer to in this video are one sized diapers. There are also sized diapers available (small, medium, large) that do not have the rise snaps. I much prefer the one size diapers because I do not have to buy multiple stashes for each stage as my child grows, hence the one size diapers grow with my child. However, there are many great options for sized diapers and they can offer a great fit as well.
*Most diaper and rash creams cannot be used with cloth diapers, as they will cause build up and make your diapers repel (not absorb). There are however several "cloth safe" rash options.
* Never use any type of dryer sheets when drying your diapers. This (along with high heat) will cause your diapers to delaminate, making them no longer waterproof which will cause leaks!
*Oxyclean is okay to use when washing diapers, just don't use too much or you can get build up just like with detergent.
*Bleach is unnecessary to clean and sanitize diapers. There are several methods to "strip" (meaning to throughly clean diapers every now and then of any and all build up) including blue Dawn, bleach, boiling water, etc. but I would still be very cautious of bleach as it can ruin your diapers if used inappropriately)
*I purchase many of my diapers second hand. You can find lots of "B/S/T" (buy/sell/trade) or other cloth diapering swap boards on Facebook or others on the web. This is a great way to save even more money on diapers!
*Therefore, when you are finished using your diapers you are able to sell your used diapers to other Mommas as well. This is another great bonus to using cloth because you get to refund some of the money you spent on your diapers, thus making cloth even more affordable!
*Cloth diapering can be as expensive or as cheap as you wish. Someone could easily cloth diaper their child full time for less than $100 (and recoup some of that money if they sell their stash one they are done); and with one box of disposable diapers easily being over $20, and considering you can use your cloth for as many children as you possibly have, it can put into perspective just how much money you really can save over time (THOUSANDS!!!!!) On the other hand, you can easily spend hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of dollars if you choose (this can happen if you become obsessed...like my guilty self). It's up to you.
*When newborns or babies are EBF (only being fed breast milk) there is no need to pre-wash ("dump" or spray) their poo off before throwing their diapers into the wash. The poo only needs to start being tossed before washing your diapers once babies are fed formula, baby food or table food.

I'll try editting my original video once I get the new ones uploaded. It's taking forever! I've been uploading the first of three onto YouTube, which is only about 6 minutes long and it's still only 55% loaded over an hour later.

Excited girl!!!! Thanks for doing this!
Also, have you tried Photobucket? If you like your original one better, although not as long, a slideshow I made once about 10 minutes long uploaded pretty easily.

1 of 3 are uploaded successfully but since they go off eachother I want to wait until all 3 are uploaded before I link to you. The 1st was only 4 minutes...so why it took well over 2 hours to upload is beyond me! I'm so frustrated! I'll leave my compute up overnight to load the other 2. And I'll also try to load the original to photobucket again and see if it'll work this time.
Sorry it's taking so long ladies but slowly it's getting there! I'll add the video links tomorrow night after work, I promise!

Michelle - As long as you have a good fit on your diaper, leaks are not going to happen unless baby is overly soaked. Generally there is a learning curve with cloth, just like with anything else. I've noticed moms get frustrated and quit too quickly with cloth before they learn the right fit for their LO or just need to change them more frequently or add extra stuffing. The older LO gets, the less frequently they'll need to be changed, just like in a disposable. It's different for everyone but for me when G was younger I changed him about every 2 hours and I only had one insert in each diaper. Now I that he's older I realized he needs more absorbancy bc he pees less often but has more of it when he does, so I put 2 inserts in each diaper and usually change him every 4 hours.

these are AWESOME!!!!! OMG thank you so much.
DH even watched them with me, and he seems really on board. Though he liked the prefolds (cause they're cheaper) lol.
Do you know if Seventh Generation liquid detergent would work for CD's? We are both allergic to anything fragrance (and I'm allergic to anything chemical) so using Tide just can't happen in our house.

Seventh Generation is great to use!
Here are some websites I thought may be helpful:
Sunbaby OS pockets - Now have size 1 or size 2, both are still OS, but size 1 are the original cut that run smaller (these are the ones I prefer) while size 2 is a new, larger cut that run larger like many other OS brands:
Product Info - Sunbaby Diapers
Best Bottoms OS AI2s:
Best Bottom One-Size Cloth Diaper System - Designed by Nicki's Diapers
Imagine prefolds - can be purchased in any size (refer to size chart on site) and depending on size most are a dozen for $20 or less; very thick and absorbant, the more times you wash them the thicker and more absorbant they get:
imagine Indian Prefold Diapers - Dozen
Planet Wise - great wetbags:
Planet Wise Wet Bags
Select prints on sale here right now:

Second hand: If you're looking for even more cost savings, check out these tips for second hand cloth!
"Cheapie Dipes b/s/t" group on Facebook: all diapers listed for sale are $10 PPD (postage paid diaper/postage included) or less!
"Sunbaby diapers b/s/t" group on Facebook: Second hand Sunbabys, many selling now are brand new never worn

Ebay: Try looking up any diapers you may be interested in on eBay for good deals. Also look for any accessories like snappis or diaper sprayers here as well!

Finally got around to taking some pictures.
My diaper storage:

I categorize everything to make it easy for DH.
10 months old in Kawaii
9 months old in Sunbaby (he's still on the same waist setting now at 15 months except we snap to the middle rise snap - this is what I mean by a learning curve, this was when we very first started to use cloth and I didn't know that this diaper needed to be adjusted to be a bit more snug at the time)
Why they call it "cute fluff butt", 10 months old:

(All Sunbabys)
9 months old - this was my original diaper storage that he's pulling up on. But the more my stash grew, the more storage I needed.
And yes, boys can rock pink too

This was a different cheap OS pocket called Sunshine I got alone with Sunbabys as my first diapers. Link here: cloth diaper - Search Results (10 for $40)

Oh my gosh....finally got a chance to catch up on the vids!!!
Awesome!!! So helpful seeing stuff in "live" action and seeing the in/outs of the diaper...I've looked online many times before and this is the first time I've actually understood the method of cloth diapers and how they work.
Thank you so much!! Off to go check out Sunbaby...so cute!!!

I'm so glad this helped make more sense for some of you!!
I started to look into and research when I was pregnant and didn't take the plunge until DS was 9 months old bc it's all so overwhelming, I had tons of unanswered questions, and I was terrified I would buy the wrong kind of diapers. So I can definetely sympathize with the confusion, but I have gotten passionate about CDing bc it's so much more simple then ppl think.

Thank you SO much for doing this...both me and my Dh watched. One question...I have a very queasy stomach, especially to smells. While the soiled diapers are in the wet bag is there an odor?

Megan- no bc the wetbag has a zipper so as long as you keep it closed you shouldn't have any smell issues.
