We are still waiting on DH's W2's so that we can file and I am getting ANTSY! We should be getting a nice return this year compared to years past. We will pay off some debt and maybe put some away in a vacation or baby fund.
I also have a question...DH went to a technical school this past fall, so I think we should be able to write that off, right? And if so, will the school send us something?

We have not filed yet I'm scared...we always have to pay so much. We are stuck in a really crappy tax bracket. This year we have paid in more than 30 grand and will probably owe about 15 thousand more....So rediculous..
Anyway, yes the school should send you a form in order to claim all of your expenses. Contact them if you don't receive one.

No, we're still waiting on a few things. But we did both get our W2s and I cannot wait to file them and get our return in the mail. Last year was extremely difficult on us financially so we've been looking forward to getting our tax return for a loooooong time!!!!
To answer your questions, yes you should be able to put his schooling in your return. That is actually the piece we are waiting on to file - for DH's school expenses.
Unfortunately our return won't be as great as it was last year bc now with my income it's put us in a new tax bracket which means we're taxed more, yay!!! I wasn't working last year so that wasn't an issue.

Nope, we still need something from DHs job. I've got all my stuff in order already and started on the paperwork. As soon as we get DHs stuff we just need to hand it in to our person.

DH will be getting an extension this year (again) to see how much of his stuff he can clear away before he files. We don't have his unemployment paperwork yet though.
Plus, he needs to sit down and talk to someone, and he doesn't have time to do so while he's working.
my tax papers don't come until the end of february.. and I have NO idea how I'm going to file my taxes since i"m in the US. Hoping I can do it online and then just print and send it all home to my grandmother to file for me.

That stuff ain't due til April yo! I'm still waiting on two of my W-2s and my school stuff. Tax season always fills me with righteous indignation as we have to file seperatly as single people because we aren't married, because we can't be, because we had the gall to be gay. So we get two seperate returns instead of just one. I'm still not sure how this all will work when we have kids, as we'll both be the legal parent (DW (i'm sorry partner) will be filing second paren adoption paperwork). But we have a lovely accountant, who listens to me rant, who can figure all this out.

I'm Canadian so people not being able to marry just cause they're gay baffles me. It's been legal in Canada for a long while now.
DH and I are married, but we can't file together this year since I'm filing in Canada and he's filing in the US.

{{{HUGS SADIE}}}
It baffles me too and also fills me with anger and frustration! But how bout Molly as a "dependent"? Like me and Josh, we're not married but I've lived with him for more than 6 months (requirement on 1040), so he gets to claim me as dependent along with our son and also claim Head of Household.
As for me, I'm not submitting a tax return - didn't work at all this year, nothing to file. Yay.
I hope Josh gets an awesome return...he's really nervous because he bought the house and not really sure how that's going to factor in with everything. He's chomping at the bit to get started, but we're still waiting for his W-2. Crossing fingers he doesn't owe too much, that tax return moola is to get us back to the Mainland for Vaughn's bday in May!!!

Believe me, it baffles a lot of Americans too! Thanks for the support! Oh Canada, gay marriage, hockey....more then once I've wondered why don't live there.

We looked at that, just to make our lives easier, but we both make to much claim the other. It funny because I'm on Molly's insurance, as its much better and qualify as domestic partners, so she'll get to write off my medical expenses on her return. But I'll write off my school expenses on my return.

We haven't filed yet, we are still waiting for my W2 from back in Texas and my college write off paperwork. I am kind of stressed about this year since I had the daycare and have never filed as self employed before. I have no clue how it will all work.
