I think the failure rate is based on perfect use, and lets be honest i dont think there are many people using it perfectly

Ross was my BC baby, the only thing i didnt do perfectly was remember to take it at the same time everyday, but i didnt even vary that much (ie one morning i would take it when i woke at 7, the next day i would sleep until 9 so id take it then, or id forget and take it at 10 instead)

I agree with Bree about the perfect use thing. And some pills, especially those like the mini pill who have an extremely high failure rate if they aren't taken at exactly the same time every day.

I've got eight oopsies. I was using some form of protection for every single one of them.. some times I was using two. Matthew and Mark were a slipped condom. Mattie Ann was a bcp condom baby. Mel and Dee, condom babies. 3 chemicals were bcp babies, and the first two were condom and pill babies.

and now, try as I might with NO birth control what so ever... can't get knocked up with an oopsie. *stupid bodies*

I agree that I think, more often than not, people aren't using BC perfectly. That and I think a lot people SAY that their pregnancy was a complete surprise but they weren't using any BC at all, so it really wasn't. Like DD, we stopped pulling out and I got pregnant. It was SHOCKING but it wasn't a surprise pregnancy because we all know what can happen when we have sex and especially unprotected.

I even have a friend who is pregnant with a "surprise" that they tried for. I just can't understand how she was so shocked by the pregnancy when she was taking OPK's and timing intercourse with the intentions of becoming pregnant.

The 97-99% success rate on BC is only if it is done just perfectly, taken same time everyday, doing everything to the T.

But I think we can all be honest sometimes its just not possible to take it the exact same time everyday, or forget to take a pill, or it drops down the drain, almost anything like that.
But I do think there is probably 25% of those who say it was "an accident" might not want to admit they really sabotaged the BC or just didnt care one way or the other if it happened.

I agree with all the ladies on this. I say that my DD was a surprise but in reality I wasn't on BC so I guess We were technically ntnp.

I think there are plenty of "oopsies" but I also think a lot of the time when people claim their birth control to fail that this is a lie. My cousin who just had a baby claims her birth control just suddenly failed on her but I don't believe her because she was very excited and into her pregnancy and having a baby. Honestly I think she was trying to keep her man in her life. I think a lot of young or unprepared people who want a baby claim their birth control fails so people wont think bad of them for purposely having a baby when they were not ready or can't afford it without assistance. My mom's cousin had her second baby after lying to her boyfriend about taking birth control when she really wasnt. I feel bad now for her daughter who is now 14 and the father who even though he pays child support wants nothing to do with her because he never wanted kids in the first place.

My first child was an oopsie because we were young and uneducated. I thought if we skipped sex during certain times in the cycle you would not get pregnant but than my cycle was irregular so our prediction was off. Now my second child came about because I had ordered birth control through the internet, I believe the generic pills came from India and I think they were fakes because after two packs I became pregnant. Bad idea getting drugs off the internet but don't complain now because I am thankful for both my children even if they did not come at the best time.
