Yes, the holiday time is approaching fast What are your plans for this time of year?
Per usual, it will just be DH and I for the holidays. It's too much hassle and expense to travel and neither set of family likes to come out here, whew! We're being even more low-key than usual since this is our last winter here and with us moving next May, we don't want to get a bunch of stuff that the movers may break or lose. Hoping for a relatively snow-free winter this year as well! This will be my 6th winter with snow and I am D.O.N.E. with this white crap
thanksgiving in canada was last month, so we dont have any holidays till chrismtas, we usually have christmas morning at home, then drive to my ILs (about an hour and half away) spend the day there and have dinner
Its my bday next week, then thanksgiving (which I have to go to my parents AND dh's parents after that). Then Chritmas and dh's birthday. We will have to travel all around to appease everyone. Way too busy! And of course school parties for the bigs and going to my grandparents a couple hours away. This season is always so busy. Hopefully my illness (ive been sick about a month now!!!) is gone by then!!!
My husband and I are hosting Thanksgiving for his brothers and their families since we all live nearby. We're traveling to Illinois a week before Christmas to see my family, then at my in-laws' house Christmas day.
Our plans for Thanksgiving, include a trip to my BIL's the weekend before, dinner with my parents sometime that week, and then Thanksgiving Day includes a trip to both PIL(parent in-laws). Christmas Day will be PIL's(Yes it has been 20+ year since they divorced and they still can't be in the same room together, nor have they learned how to share their children). Christmas Eve will do dinner with my parents. Also we spend part of Christmas morning.
We do a big family thing for thanksgiving at my aunts house (about 3 hours away). Everyone comes for 3-5 days and we hang out and drink too much (not me!) and catch up on our lives. It's about 40 people and growing We all love it. Apparently it's a rarity to have a family who all gets along like that, but we do. From grandma (82) to the youngest great-grand baby (4mo), we all enjoy each others company.
Christmas we do dinner out on Christmas Eve with my immediate family and a close family friend. Then Chrstmas morning is at our house just us. Then in the afternoon we will go to my folks house (25 min away) and do Christmas there and then my moms birthday dinner/cake (it's her birthday on Christmas).
This year my ILs will be up from FL between Dec. 11-16th. I'm just glad they leave before my birthday! Lol. But we will celebrate Christmas with them while they are here.
I enjoy a big family Thanksgiving and Christmas but my Mom has been a bit of a wench about things the past few years so I'm not even going to ask if she's doing it this year. I work Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Sat that week. The inlaws just make a gross steak, velveeta mac n cheese, a potato and that's it. No veggies. Well, sometimes a salad. I'm not looking forward to that. If my sister doesn't do something for Christmas, I think I will just make a turkey meal for the family here at home.
We live about 4.5 hours away from our families and DH, my sister and my FIL all have crappy work schedules and end up working a lot of holidays and weekends. It makes planning get togethers a giant PITA. Right now the plan is that we will drive down to my parent's house on Nov. 30th and we will have Thanksgiving on Dec 1st since everyone is supposed to be off of work that weekend. I will probably make a small turkey dinner for the three of us on Thanksgiving day as well. I haven't even thought about Christmas yet.
For Thanksgiving we will see both families... it's also my dad's 50th so we are surprising him with a cabin trip in the mountains. Afterwards we will trek to DH's family and be there on actual Thanksgiving.
The week before CHristmas we will be at a lodge in the mountains with DH's WHOLE family (think 30 something people!). Not sure what we will do for actual Christmas yet, but we will def see my family in there sometime too!
