Going to Glendalough tomorrow after church to start signing some contracts! Or at least that's the plan as of right now. I'm still kinda... unsure. I def. want the place, the problem is they book up FAST so I need to reserve it like, now. But I'm worried that by the time we make the appt. with our priest we'll find out that we can't have it at X time on X day or something. I feel like I "should" reserve the church first since I don't have any options with that, I *have* to get married at the church (Catholics won't recognize your marriage otherwise,) and it's the only catholic church around here, not to mention I went to preschool on up there. So yeah, that's the problem. But I'm going to sign the contacts with Glendalough tomorrow and talk to them about it (they work with my church often) and assume that with this much time AND my wedding being on a friday it won't be a problem with the church... and talk to them in about two months or so. I'm waiting with the church b/c I never became an "official" memebr where I got my own donation envelopes (how they keep track of you going) and I just mailed them that paperwork this morning. I don't want to become a member and immediatly start talking wedding stuff and have them think that's the only reason I did it or something. They shouldn't though since I've recieved all over sacraments (besides Baptism) there.
Anyway... here's a pic of the outside of our reception place. Isn't it fab?
OMG, that is GORGEOUS!!! And I didn't know that the church didn't recognize your marriage if you didn't get married inside the church. Do you happen to know the reasoning for that? *I'm just curious, you don't have to answer, and I'm not in any way, shape, or form trying to start any kind of debate.*
It's AMAZING! I can't believe how beautiful it is! It's looks perfect for your reception.
And sorry about all the church red tape. But you're smart in getting your church date/time booked first. I hope they have your date too. I had a Sunday wedding and I didn't run into problems with booking anything. I bet you won't either.
Jess, The Catholic church considers marriage one of the sacraments, and they must take place within a Catholic church building. So that means only in the church... which rules out pretty much every outdoor wedding, disneyland wedding, beach wedding... etc. etc. etc. or the church won't 'recognize' my marriage. I know one of the catholic rules used to be that either your MOH or best man had to be Catholic, I'm not sure on that one anymore... and some churches don't allow you to expose your shoulders. Really praying that that's outdated and won't apply at my church, lol.
The church itself is just GORGEOUS on the inside though too! Stained glass everything, newly updated with grey brick backgropunds... I wish there was a picture online. Would it be weird to try to take one real quick tomorrow before mass?
Even those pics of Glendalough don't do it justice! The outside grounds are GORGEOUS and I am so worried it'll rain and we won't get all the beautiful landscaping shots!
OMG! That is a gorgegous reception site! Your wedding will be beautiful!
I went back and forth with different reception sites and my priest to find a day that fit both. As for the time that the reception would start, I picked a time I thought would work, but ending up moving it a half an hour up because my priest needed to be finished in time for Reconciliation. My reception site had no problem bumping the reception time up a half an hour.

I don't think your church would be upset if you asked about setting your wedding date as soon as your paperwork is processed. They know that there's many devout catholics who just haven't bothered to become 'members' to a specific church. If you've received all your sacraments there then I'm sure the priest knows you and would be willing to work with you! It sounds like it's going to be a gorgeous wedding! Can't wait for more pics!

DBF's father doesnt recognize any of his 4 kids marriages because none were in a catholic church. His father is VERY catholic. We'll be lucky if we can even get him to come to our wedding (which will be done with a non-donominational minister)
That place is SO pretty. Ahhh i cant wait to start the whole wedding planning thing!

What a beautiful place!!! My church is as "old school catholic" as you can get and there were no restrictions on whether moh or bm had to be catholic, and i wore a strapless dress! Getting my boys baptized, on the other hand, has been a red tape mess and is the reason why my youngest still hasn't gotten baptized (they worked with me for my first but the new priest won't work with me for Loch's).
